Hello,
regarding to this thread, I couldn't find a accurate answer to the question: Does shield size affect guarding in RvR?
I started this new thread on purpose, because I would like to have only this specific question discussed and no other half-off-topic statements.
On live servers, shield size did only affect for blocking for yourself, not for guarding group members, afaik. Also, I could guard-block loads of yellow/orange mobs with my hero wearing a small shield within a second, so I *think*, for guarding, shield size doesn't matter. After reading the thread above though, I'm not too sure.

Whoever told you that is wrong.
So it seems like shield size matters for guard, on uthgard at least. Can't say if this works like that live though.

The Problem is that on live there is currently a block cap since a later patch.
There are several grabbags about the blockrate, atm we are checking them to find out which solution is the right one for uthgard.

Hmm my question was not the block cap. All I wanted (and still want) to know is, if small shields block less targets for a groupmember than large shields while guarding, in RvR. The question is also not, if small shields block less targets than large shields, for yourself. Just to specify it more
Would love to see a simple yes or no from a GM
And if they do block less targets, is it a custom change for Uthgard or did live-servers remove the guard<->shield-size independency in a later patch, too?

Would indeed be nice, this topic is only about this, no need to start talking about the cap here imo.

this will be hard to test because it needs at least three characters logged in, two of them from different realms

From the code: Guard is influenced by shield size but only the attackers on the Guarder itself count not the guarded group member. This is propably incorrect. So if the guarder has no attacker on himself and the guarded group member 10 enemies, the guarder will block every enemy with no penalty. Sounds like a bug to me, at least thats what I read from the code.

good to know, it was pain to change between small and large shield
so do I understand it correctly that if I have enemies on me and small shield equiped I will block less attacks on my guarded target?

If the enemies only attack the guarded target (for instance the healer), they will create no penalty to the amount of blocks because of shield size. However if they decide (3 or more) to attack you in person (for instance the full tank) you will have a block chance penalty related to shield size.
In other words, the shield size has no effect on the blockamount for the guarded target, only for the shield user himself, just as when he's not guarding anyone.
