I asked a friend (who was in my group) for 3 silver. He put 3 silver in the trade window and hit enter. In the window, it automatically doubled and transferred me 6 silver.
After buying my weapon, I had 3 silver left on my character, so I tried to trade him 3 silver back - it didn't go through when I hit accept. I then traded him 1 silver, which automatically updated to 2 silver. That went through.
1. Trade a friend 1-3 (and maybe more - haven't tested yet) silver by selecting the coin in your backpack and placing it on his character.
2. Watch it double in the trade window.
3. Hit ok, if you have the allocated amount, it will transfer, if you don't have the money, it will say trade accepted, but nothing will be transferred.
Make coin transfers trade the selected coin amount.
I did not take any screenshots or videos, but this should replicate pretty easily.
