When a enemy is next to an animist pet it is not casting spells but using melee attacks even though it's not being attacked. This only happens to the main pet, the other pets which last 2min properly cast even when in melee and being attacked. This pet is in the Arboreal line which lasts until killed or released, It is the pet that can be controlled.
1. spawn an enemy mob.
2. Bring it next to the animist turret pets.
3. make pet attack.
Unless actually taking damage or being attacked the Main animist pet should cast his nuke spell all the time. In all honesty I'm not even sure if the pet is interruptible in the first place.
I tried looking for proof but at this point I can only go by my experience.
