When I created a new Midgard character, I'm unable to delete my starting weapon. This is an issue because it takes up valuable bag space.
1. Create a new character (Viking Class)
2. Left click on the training weapon to view info
3. View that it's flagged as no trade, no drop.
Remove the no drop tag on the weapon so it can be deleted.

As an example, Hib starting (training) weapon doesn't contain any of those flags.

The Training Axe only has the following flags: No Drop, No Trade, No Sell. You can still destroy it using Shift-D, you mention dropping the item which is not the same as destroying. Since that is what this report is about - invalid.
Only thing I can find is 1.52 adding replacement shields for alb starters that lost their shield.
I'm surprised the screenshots on allakhazam don't show the 'no sell' flag, though. Perhaps the tooltips for those were a later addition?
You should be able to drop or destroy the item.
I always remembered having to destroy weapons to get rid of them. However, I checked how it is on Albion at the moment.
Fighter:
Shield: Cannot be sold, traded or dropped.
Sword: Cannot be sold, traded or dropped.
Rogue:
Dirk: Cannot be sold, traded or dropped.
Acolyte:
Shield: Cannot be sold, traded or dropped.
Mace: Cannot be sold, traded or dropped.
Elementalist (Assuming Disciple and mage as well):
Staff: Cannot be sold or traded. I was able to drop the weapon.
If anything, there's inconsistencies between the starting weapons. Even within one realm.
I'll see if I can find anything in the patch notes.

what is the name of the weapon? and yes you should be able to drop the starting weapons
Welcome to DAoC.
Training weapons have to be destroyed to remove them.
Shift+D to destroy them.
