It is possible to craft/salvage while being in combat. And it is possible to cast while crafting and craft while casting.
1. create a caster (e.g. animist), become tailor
2. start to craft/salvage while casting (e.g. cast shrooms)
3. start to cast while crafting/salvaging
It shouldn't be possible to pursue any other action while crafting. When crafting you need all your concentration to create this precious piece of yours.
You can't buff or cast while crafting. You can't start crafting while in combat.
The same applies to salvaging.
I used to craft and salvage while leveling with my animist back in the days. I always had to wait till I was out of combat before I could start to craft.
I always crafted while regaining power.
