I have marked this "Game Mechanic" it may be a "World Build" issue.
My lvl 22 Runemaster has the "Silent Death" quest to hunt Njessi.
I am solo running away from Gna Fast when I get a message: "You pull the creature's head from the corpse in a display of strength. You received the Njessi's head!".
I was not aware of anyone in the area killing Njessi and it was not until much later that I realised that I had Njessi's head in my inventory.
1. Take a Runemaster to level 22.
2. Complete the "Hunting Party" (lvl 12) quest from Bork in Huginfell.
3. Get the "Silent Death" (lvl 22) quest from Bork in Huginfell.
4. Stand just North of Gna Fast and I assume under some circumstances when Njessi is killed you get the reward without taking part in killing Njessi.
It should not be possible to get a reward for a quest without killing the mob yourself of being in a group that kills the mob.
I was able to hand the head in to receive the almost useless Runemaster staff.
