As far as I could read, Purge is applied to the Necromancer shade instead of the Necromancer pet, which is nonsens.
1. Surf to the DAoC patchnotes archive
2. Read patchnote 1.59
3. - The Purge realm ability is now properly available to Necromancers.
I interprete the patchnotes, that the wrong (and your) behavior of Purge has been repaired and Purge has to be applied to Necromancer pet and not to the shade.
