Realm ability timers go down while on a different character
1. Use a realm ability with a timer
2. Switch characters
3. Come back later to see the timer has gone down/gone
From what I remember you had to stay logged on to wait for such powerful abilities.
Just check for yourself, use an RA then log to a different character and see its clear as day
