first of all i was wondering if salvaging to ebonwood was correct, because i remember from back in the days all the "sterite" drops from spindel used to salvage to asterite. so i looked it up in the internet and found an article on allakhazam where someone confirmed this staff was salvaging to asterite metal bars.
