Hi,
The Issue is an old one, it was there on Uthgard 1.0 so I was eager to see if its still there.
Szenario:
Paladin, autotrain lines are chants and slash (if i remember correctly).
Lets say you level your paladin without autotrain (you level slash and chants from lvl 5+ so no autotrain happens, no "extrapoints" gained) so on lvl 20 you got 20 chants and 12 slash (just for example) and with the free line respec on lvl 20 you think "man, I want to be a crush/thrust pally!" so you respec slash. Now the bug happens - the charsystem respecs slash as wished but skills slash instantly right back to the appropriate autotrain level wich you had if you hadn't skilled slash befor (so "autotrain") BUT it is using your skillpointpool to do that, so skillpoints are lost in the process. In lowlevel this doesnt matter very much but if you respec on lvl 50 with a linerespec you often lose points you need for the endskill (happend to me on Uthgard 1.0) because the system skills the autotrain line up to them max with your skillpoints used.
1. Make a Char lvl 5, skill one point in the autotrain lines.
2. Level that char up to 20 (with the spent point(s) in the autotrain line(s) the system shouldnt autotrain in it/them).
3. Respec the autotrain line and you will see the system skills it up to the appropriate autotrain level for level 20.
4. Check the skillpoints you should have with level 20 and compare it to your current skillpoints. (should be less because of the forces skilling)
I reported this to a GM on Uthgard 1.0 but the Gm told me he cant and dont want to help me with this matter and I should show him the patchnotes from live in wich is written that this is a bug (and, seriously?).
I respeced often on live and at no point I can remember these mechanic with forced skillpoint use (even on old versions before SI).
So the solution is that the system should "remember" if autotrain was used on one skillline and doesnt try to execute it on it when its respeced.
Please note: this is NOT a way to gain more skillpoints in any way, you didnt use autotrain in the first place in the example and with this bug removed you end up with the same points after respec as if you hadn't respeced.
(E.g. slash (autotrain line) skilled to 20, then respeced and after respec the autotrain line (slash) ends up with 1, no points forcefully used).
The problem with this is that it punishes ppl who don't use autotrain and want to test some new spec in lategame or smth.
If my memory is really that wrong and this used to be the correct behavior I'm sorry for the report.
The only proof in this case, sadly, is my memory. I dont have that much time to check all the original DAoC changelogs (and I'm not even sure this bug ever happend on live) and dont own a liveacc anymore (and the respec/autotrain system on live now works in some other way if I'm not mistaken).
So i hope some other people can confirm this.
