Your first trace route failed because the host name you entered is no longer valid for Uthgard. If you're still experiencing packet loss in-game, please try running the following in a command prompt while you play:
Code: Select all
ping -t server.uthgard.net

If you see the ping meter light up in-game, check if the performance drop shows up there too. If you have access to your router's logs, those may help too.

Most routers log invalid packets and/or half-open connections by default. If you're not sure what IP your router has in the network, try the following from a command prompt:
Code: Select all
ipconfig

That should list all physical and virtual network adapters.

Look for your primary WAN connection ("Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection [optional number]" or "Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection [optional number]" - if you have a local gateway, that would usually assign IPs with 192.168 as the first two octets, potentially with a "lan" DNS suffix for local lookup).

Note the "Default Gateway" IP for that connection and try to browse to that with your favourite browser. It should now ask you to authenticate to the router (if you haven't changed the credentials, consult the manual or search for default superuser passwords for the manufacturer/model of the router).

Alternatively, you could see if you have the same latency and packet loss spikes to server.uthgard.net and, say, google.com simultaneously. Proceed as in my last post, but open two command prompts and leave ping -t running on each of those hostnames. If pinging google.com ALSO shows problems, I'm afraid I probably won't be able to help you.

I wouldn't recommend it. Unless you have a high-end proxy pretty much to yourself, the chances are it'll only decrease your performance further.
