I'm stuck between rolling a friar or a cleric. Is there enough people leveling in Albion to be able to level a Cleric?

I found my short time in Albion fairly unenjoyable, the low lvling situation is almost non-existent. The whole 'PL with a necro' stuff killed it for me, and was one of the main reasons that there was so little conventional low level stuff going on.

I ended up deleting my toons and moving to Hib which weirdly enough, despite having less population than Alb, has more grps? perhaps the new LFG channel has helped somewhat across both these realms.

Bear in mind this was my experience, yours may vary.

Cleric is quite a boring class to play imho at this patch level, and friars only really start to get good at lv30+

They are both doable.

Kill tasks to 20 for either and/or groups and then both are probably welcome in groups for xp.

I skilled till lvl 20 full smite and did killtasks. was funny and quick.
Then - respec to full buff. With lvl 40 begann to skill heal. Leveled quicker then other my classes.

Lots of clerics atm in Albion, hard to find a group.
