I was wondering if it is possible if more then one shaman is casting an AE dot' on the same target (one or more mobs) ?
What is curious to me: One Shaman casts AE dot on 2 mobs the second shaman casts then also an AE dot to the same mobs and get the message that the mob resists the spell.. Shouldn't the message be like: The mob xy has already the effect ..., or something like this , if it is not possible ? If a mob is under the affect of AE dot, there is no problem if several others do additionally a single dot on the mob. |

you got the resist message because resist check is done first than checking if another dot is already applied.
In that case, the mob really resisted the second spell. If it landed, you would have seen the 'already has that effect' |

Hmm, assuming the first ae dots casted on mobs would be a lower lvl ae dot, would then the second ae (higher lvl ) from another shaman overwrite the first one , or would it still show : 'already has that effect' ? |

Theory is that higher level dots (not only AoE ones, and of course talking about same class) SHOULD overwrite the previous ones. Even crit dots should overwrite lower level or lower damage ones.
What it is nowadays, i couldn't say, because dots are NOT working the right way at the moment (issue already open). Back in the day, you'd cast a dot, and it would have always the same damage per each tick (depending on your spec, with more or less variance.. which was the main reason for which a dot could overwrite a previous one because the damage was higher). At the moment, the dots may have big variance, even if full spec into the dot spell line. So IT MAY HAPPEN that the first dot applied could have a HIGH initial damage value and lower damage following ticks. IF a second dot lands while the 'dot tick on the monster' is of a higher value, you will get the 'monster already has that effect', and the spell will be not overwritten, even if the following ticks would be greater in damage RANDOM NUMBERS. As soon as the issue will be fixed (already assigned and Blue is working on it), it will all revert back to the standard condition, and overwriting the lower dots will be an easier calculation (assuming your spec will be high enough for that to happen, maybe with crits too) Does the above sound confusing? If so.. /shrug |
