Currently playing cave and would like to respec aug at 40.

What spec should I use to be the most useful in groups?

Kinda depends on your final spec and play style.

If you only level in groups you should go at least 37 Aug for yellow dex/quick and endu 4 (@32aug).
I respeced to 32Aug/7Mend/22 Suberr and then went up to 29 subterr for being able to solo farm with ae dots (not that much time for groups), but I will only go for 38Aug later.

I would go 8 mend, rest aug no matter what you will have 8 mend and then you can figure out the rest latter.

Let me save you a few plats on respec stones, my friend.

The spec you want to go for is 46 aug, 27 cave, 8 mend.

46 aug for:
Red str/con - awesome for tanks and melee dps.
Red endo - you can't be within the end regen range of everyone in your group 100% in rvr. Therefore, you need it to regen as much as possible.
Red heat and cold resist buffs - Even though every serious caster group has a debuffer, these are still nice to have.
Red dmg add - A solid replacement if there is no dark RM in group.

27 cave for:
Pbae disease fart - this is just pure awesomeness in rvr. Drop it on everything moving nearby. It even interrupts casting.
Ae root - Situational but can be very devastating if dropped on a couple of supports that happen to stand too close to each others.

8 mend for:
Cure disease

I have tried different specs with lower aug and higher cave but they all fall short in 8vs8 rvr in my opinion. You need every advantage you can get there.

Since the OP did not reply what he intends to do we can only suggest specs. Maybe he doesn't like 8vs8 and wants to farm a bit with his shaman.

I personally don't like red buffs and endurance, not enough conc to buff it to everyone.
That got better with toa bonuses, which we don't have here.
The resists are awesome in 8vs8 though.

You will hit the max 20 buff cap after giving everyone endurance anyway. So your argument isn't valid.

I repec'ed to 38 aug and will be 37 cave, last 9 points into mend. That gives me yellow specs and resists and some really nice toys in cave. At 45 I am only now building up my cave so its kind of slow go but I hope this will be a really great spec for rvr. A lot of groups see that yellow endo and sigh but with LW1 you have perma sprint and as of yet I haven't had a tank say omg I am out of endo yet

because you dont sprint to chase a mob while spamming doublefrost.

Never had an aug healer in group? Or never pulled fast enough? =)

Yeah at the very least purple endo is needed

Well I did end up respecting to 43 aug and 27 cave, level 48 atm but everything else is going into mending.. I Think its right now. Wondering if I should have went 46 aug..

Have sinced changed this to 43/aug, 31 cave, 8 mend. This gives me red endo , yellow specs, one red resists the others yellow, a nice green aoe root, valuable along side the 27 poison poot… and 8 mend. Have been enjoying the extra in cave.

I just realised there is no buff shear on Uthgard anymore after grinding 30 levels on my shammy!

MoC & buffshear was so much fun and powerful, AT hitting like sissies after str/con + str share.

Ichor & buffshear & grey aoe chainroot on badly grouped casters was fun too.

Sham 48 Aug was the way to go if you knew what you were doing.

Damn this is bad. QQ bring it back.
