You dont know how Kobolds and Trolls name their children, so you cannot tell me that "Omgrofllolyousuck" and"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" are not good Names for them!

Maybe thats exactly how they name their children :P
Now thats logic.

Maybe, with Iconus, "Penis" is a common Name. Maybe it means "Fish who is a little small but is very clever" in Inconu language .... hahahaa

What did i want to say: Names that are obviously chosen to provoke, irritate are stupid etc deserve to be changed.

I'm agree to keep the server as clean as posible of stupid/unapropiated names, perhaps there are already a few of that kind of names but not too much i think. Unfortunately there's no a program or sistem to do it automatically so you must accept the criterium of the staff.
And I wonder is so hard to change a name of a character? I don't think so... I have an old one and if it would be considered unapropiated... i just change it... so what?

I don't think that any german would ever choose a name like "Herrverrücktjäger"....

there are more and more renamed... it would be nice to stop that.
a guildmate called rdx got renamed redox... oki maybe too short name or don't know what...

so he asked me to talk to gm to get his char "redox" would be renamed "feuks" "ofu" or some others name he gave me.

1 day later i talk to gm and ask him to rename "redox" in "feuks" but the name was already in game so was not possible.(he had created this char in the time i asked help of the gm) so "redox" got renamed "ofu"

still there no problem...

but when he want to log to his char "feuks" he got renamed too...it would be nice to know why? if even a gm was oki to rename "redox" "feuks" why feuks was not oki for another GM?

please set rules of what name is oki or not....

Right, I don't know how stupid people are, but I also know that anyone who's choosing a name either chooses one who sounds cool, is leet, sticks to RP-rules, just enters nonsense or whatever.

"Herrverruecktjaeger" is neither the one nor the other. Usually someone would probably use "madhunter" or maybe "m4dhun73r" (sorry, I don't like leet so maybe that's not really correct 1337). Sticking to RP-rules someone would think about a name that fits, the bad ones are names from commonly known stories like e.g. Legolas for an elven hunter. And then there are the ones with complete nonsense like "blub" or "adjelkawj" which fit is either short or just random keys. "Herrverruecktjaeger" is much to long for nonsense and definetely not random. "Mrmadhunter" is probably part of "or whatever", I don't know.

I usually don't care about most of the names, yet I also think that "Mrmadhunter" does not really fit while "Madhunter" would be ok for me. As an example (maybe a bad one) I would say it's nearly the same as "Kingarthur" which is not really Ok while "Arthur" would be fine.

Yet this is only my humble opinion. I'm fine with the actions of the admins and whoever does not like it should remember that this server is for free. And most of us have a certain reason why they are not playing on PU... or other freeshards but on Uthgard.

i just try to use names that are not too long, and easy recognised..

i know the german language is different from ours but it's sometimes very difficult to invite someone to grp if the name doesn't sound like a name at all, so i like easy names a lot (i'm a slow typing guy,)

but you can't argue abouth names as long as you don't know anything abouth the person behind it, i would never use Jezus as a name, but in latin country's it's a common name, same with Mercedes and others...

maybe a german gm would not like a female char with the name Mercedes, while the players sister could have that name...

but i agree that some sort of roleplay should still be considered and since this game places us in the middle ages of england, scotland and ireland i think at that time not many germans where living there

i have a char called merel, in our language that means blackbird, but it is also a name that was used for merlin....

i dislike names like "skullbreaker" "crusher" and so on, and the german translations of them sound even worse...

maybe gm's should post a list with names they don't like and give players the option to choose an other one, or just ask them in game...

but on the other hand, they have more important things to do so i won't tell them what or how...

just one little thing... i don't like the idea that a name gets changed once a char reaches lvl 25 or higher, that means the name has been in the database and in game for day's, weeks or even months...

it would be nice if you play a char for a few weeks, to be certain it won't be renamed, i think there should be some rule or statement abouth that from admin or GM,
that way they would certainly get help from other players,
if i see a char called Dildo or something like that, and i know he gets to keep that name if he reaches lvl 25, i would report it,
but now i won't cause i just feel he is gonne be renamed one day or another..

just my 2 cents

Monty

Well, as a general rule names consisting only of consonants (e.g. Rdx, Rdz) are a rather certain case of being renamed. Same with titles (e.g. Ladybraemar, Mrmadhunter) or clan tag equivalents (e.g. Rbbtommy) in front of names. Then, we have number parts (e.g. Tommy, Tommytwo, Tommythree...) - there are other ways of creating unique names which still can be recognised as belonging together (e.g. Pana*). Additionally, names resembling something dropped on the keyboard (e.g. dsailufg, fgfgfgfgf). Last but not least, there are those names consisting of or containing bad words (e.g. ********).

This list should give you some ideas, although it's probably not a complete rule set. As I have written in another place - names will always be a question of personal taste. Some people might accept names while others might find them annoying.

Just that he didn't get noticed before reaching the proposed level (25?) doesn't guarantee that he can keep a name when it falls into one of above categories. Maybe the player levelled mostly during night sessions when there is a good chance for GMs to be asleep. After some time he might reach the suggested level even without being seen by us. To avoid this we'd probably have the option to check every single newly created character name. But as you already said: this would be a time-consuming task.

Also, we already admitted that we were rather lax in the past resulting in a couple of names we'd rather not see. This includes level 50 chars, too.

I think I already said in another place that, although this is a nice idea, it isn't practible. If there is a chance to talk to the player right away (i.e. he is currently online) we normally tell him to choose another name. In most cases, however, this isn't the case. So, the name gets changed without further notice. (The player can then send a /callgm with a naming suggestion once he finds out. If acceptable the name gets changed once more and everyone should be happy...)

Alas, posting the names in the forum would probably be in vain, too, since a lot of players don't read here regularly.
Happy hunting!

The GMs are usualy doing a good job.
And they are quite fair too.
When a Char named Xxx gets renamed and he does not like the new name, he usualy gets a chance to chose a new name himself.
