At first I had some trouble getting the game to actuly work with the launcher, but after I got it working, I made a character, tried to log in, and was frozen at the loading screen.

The bar was full as if it loaded, the music started to play, but after that nothing happened.

does anyone know what the problem is?

edit: nm, it loaded, but it took a very long time.

my comp is quite nice and has 1 gig of ram. for WoW the loading screen takes like 15 sec, but for this it takes about 1 min. any ideas?

which version of DaoC you have? Firewall Router configured ? right Dollaoder version?

I had same problem. It's not pc fault but it's a simply connection problems. If your connection is too slow you can crash/wait much times after pc finished loading.
Probably it can depends on:
1- Slow connection (56k with many people using it)
2- Wireless system (interferences)
3- Program who blocks/reduces the connection speed
