Hey guys, not only am I new to Uthgard but I am also new to DAoC (but don't worry I'm not at all new to online gaming, I've come from Ultima, Ragnarok, WoW, LotRO, Lineage II, Guild Wars, EQ, etc) and I was wondering if you could help me out by answering a few noob questions.

1. What is the easiest way to pick up drops off the ground?

It's rather embarrassing to admit but for some silly reason I seem to be having problems picking items up off the ground. I usually only succeed after some random intense spam clicking both right and left mouse button. There has to be an easier way, lol.

2. Is there any sort of really lame class and/or race I should be forewarned about?

Nearly every game has at least 1 or 2 gimpy classes that just plain suck. Is there any here in DAoC I might want to avoid?

3. Is there any way to add control functions to the quick slot toolbar?

I noticed you start with items like map, quest log and help hotkeyed already. If you remove any, is there a way to place them back? And is there a way to hotkey other similar functions and commands?

4. What is a good place for someone new to level up and save cash for armor/weapons?

I'm sure some places are better then others... have any tips?

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to answer any of my questions, I really appreciate it. And if anyone has any other helpful advice to add, feel free!

First off welcome to Uthgard and DAoC!

1) My controls are set to "h" as select nearest item and "g" as pick up selected item. I can't remember what the default configuration is but you can edit it yourself in Options -> Keyboard.

2) There aren't any really lame classes so to speak. Every class has its uses. As long as you don't ****** up your spec points, every class is viable. I'd suggest looking up some more info about every class or asking around ingame to decide which one fits you best.

3) In DAoC you can create macros. You can stick these to your quickbar.
It goes: /macro <name> <command>
For example: /macro map /map. This will show your...well...map.

4) I don't know what realm you intend on playing and can only speak for Hibernia anyways. In your first 10 levels you should find enough to work with near your starter town.

Also set /autoloot on.
To see commands open attributes tab(upper right corner, left icon)
and open command window. Shift+click+drag to get the command
to toolbar. Around level 10 go to first dungeon.

Concerning 2:

Animist won't be fun as he is limited to base spells as of now (the class isn't fully implemented). Generally Pet classes, except theurgist, don't have their full potential at the momemt. They can be fun anyways.

tip 1: try to find quests, the low lvl quests are like a tutorial
tip2: log in and simply type /auto on
this will make you pick up loot
if loot is dropped too far away i think spamming hg buttons is standard..

i learned the game with the little book that came with the cd's some years ago, bet you can find em online

but i think tip 1 is the best... and you can find quests by clicking the questgivers button on your map and roam cotts and camelot, as sson as you see a yellow dot on your map, go for it and do the quests...

have fun

If you come to Hibernia, you're welcome in guild Dawn of Chaos, we will help you out. Just type ingame /who Dawn and ask for leaders and ask leaders for invite! Even if you don't join, welcome to DAoC and Uthgard!

1)
Easier way is to set /autoloot on, so you take loot automatically
2)
There is no really a gimp class, all depends on how you play it. If you are new to daoc, I suggest you to play a tank class so you can experiment by yourself the daoc mechanics
3)
You can put attack, face, stick, ecc... to quick bars, but it's not very useful. When you reach higher level you need all possible slots in qbars, so it's better to bind stick and face command in your keyboard from /keyboard options.
To attack use f6 till you have a good anytime style, then you can use it to draw your weapon
4)
It depends on realm, you can ask to some lv 50 for tips or even for some money when you are really low level (less than 20)
