Is crafted armor the best in game or what is?

Also, what is the cap on crafting?
And..... is crafting generally something you can/should do from the start or once you are established and have a lot of money?

the best = yes (only few dropped pieces are better)
cap = depends on crafting
when = imo when you are established a bit
