When to take up crafting?

Howdy everyone.
At what level range should I think about taking up crafting? I'm imagining that it might be expensive so wanted to know at which point in the game do u have enough money to start doing it. Or do you start early so you can make your own gear as you level up, etc? Wasn't a hardcore player of original DAOC so don't know all the intricacies. Thank you for any responses. |

Honestly, whenever. If it's your primary char, I'd wait until you have at least 1g to blow on materials to level up. Your probably not going to be able to make much for yourself, but, alts, newbies, guildies etc should be good.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to make yourself gear as you level up. Though if you are a part of a guild, and have their financial backing, you could make it work. If not, I wouldn't recommend picking up a craft until lvl 50. Bringing a single craft to max will cost thousands of gold, and some of them are many times more expensive than others.

My 2 cents:
What's the idea behind craft in DAoC: it provides - aside of jewelry - the best possible gear but it is costly to level first and to get the finest pieces second when you start to sell. The good news is that being hard and costly to level, alot of people won't spend time on it but will be willing to finance you provided you keep them your best gear or will apply a 100% of the price policy later on (that is crafting at no benefits). Another way to go is to make a class that can farm like crazy in PvE so you can feed money to yourself without asking anyone (much harder and less rewarding imho) |

most go Tailoring since its the cheapest and allows you to salvage all items-once you level it up. Like others have stated roll a pVE toon to be your farmer -mage is usually the most common

Now i do not know what realm/class u are but i would dive right into crafting as level 5!
I'm a hunter, currently level 23 and have been focusing fletching with most of my economy. i hit 500 Fletching yesterday with my own money, found some bugs and reported them (just found another today). everyone is hungering for armor, so i would go armorcrafting.... if you use cloth/leather you should concider tailoring, but only if that. there are a few weapon drops and OTD out there, but weaponcrafting is a quite solid way to keep you busy, you just need to spam some offers in guild/broad, fx. "selling level 5 sword, 5silver"... that will bring low levels to you but also higher levels will ask if you can make a level 15 hammer etc... be smart about your crafting tactic, what to skill on, some are less money sinking than others so dont worry and test of a few to find the right one to skill on (small shields, daggers etc are low in material cost and you get skill even though they are green). This is BETA. the point is to find all the bugs before release, the sooner we have found the bugs in crafting the sooner we will see the game actually launching. good luck. /Evendir the Hunter |

You can get a tradeskill at level 5, and I would probably advice you to save most of your money until then.
At level 5 and with the money you have you can easily break 100 in any trade. With like 100-130 you can create full yellow lvl 5 94%+ armour/weapon etc for yourself and your mates. This beats the 85% storebought blue armour/weapon you can afford from merchants. |

how much does it cost to up a tradeskill to 500?
|
|
depends on the craft you chose |
|
can you level all crafts on 1 toon? or can you only level up 1 craft on 1 toon?
also with regards to alc, can any class be an alc? so that you can craft your own buff pots etc? also with buff pots can you but all the mats? or are they from drops for the higher end pots? like in CM i remember on hib! sorry for all questions haha, any help is appreciated. |

Here you have the tradeskills that each class can use. Last edited by Ilerget on Mar 17, 2017 18:00, edited 1 time in total.

Wanted to get more people's thoughts on this. I'm debating whether to take up a craft now (my main is level 20) or instead spend my gold on constantly upgrading my items so I can level faster.
For those who are recommending tailoring, how exactly do you make money? By crafting and selling items to other players? Everyone in Uthgard seems to have a tailor, so I'm not sure how this would work. Also, do people NOT choose tailoring for their mains because it allows for only low siegecrafting? |
