Primary vs Alts for crafter

Trying to plan ahead... anticipate having a tailor for salvaging to make plats to start, then ultimately make an alchemist.
My anticipated main will be a minstrel primarily for solo play so was thinking I should invest in making an alchemist eventually for the pots. Currently he is my only character. Initially I had planned to make him a tailor to salvage as I go, but with uth2's implementation of pots, I'm wondering if maybe holding off and making him the alchemist later would be a more sustainable plan. So my question, with my final plan of keeping minstrel potted eventually, is it logistically a better idea to make him the alchemist later and just create a lowbie alt for tailoring/salvaging now? Does that provide significant advantage over just transferring pots via vault/housing later? Does that advantage outweigh the benefit of my main (minstrel) being able to salvage on the go (at the expense of having to transfer for salvages instead) ? Is there any other consideration I'm overlooking? For the tl;dr: how much relative convenience does having your main be your salvager vs. your pot crafter actually bring? Thanks! Uth2:

If you make your mincer your salvager, you can easily run to the RK when you need to raise your skill 800+ and hopefully not get ganked so easily.
Either way you are going to be transferring salvage or potions between characters. Snicklefritz 50 BM

Thanks for the response. I'm missing a little context to fully understand because I've never actually taken a crafter that high.
Just to clarify, running to the RK / contested zones is something you have to do to level tailoring/salvaging high? Is that unique to mundane trades (eg. tailoring) ? Uth2:
