LGM SCer attempting to combine gems on gear with 1% or 0% chance to fail. I fail to combine 20+ times on L51 gear. What factors determine the combine success?

thanks

Arre you sure you are looking at the chances to fail and not on the chances to explode? If you imbue a level 51 Item 99% with 4x 99% stones you have a 1% chance to explode, but only a 30% chance not to fail. It can take a few attepts until it works.

Ahh you're correct I was looking at the explode percentage.

thanks

Where do you get those percentage? As far as a friend remember from live, combine should never fail (can't confirm it, never played live)

It says it in the log.

For instance, max overcharge on a lvl 51 99% item with 4 99% gems gives:
30% chance to combine
1% risk to explode.

It never fails to combine if you don't overcharge. Or if you do alchemy

on MP items, you negate the explosion risk with an average gem quality of 99%

So no risk to explode with:
-4 x 99% gems
-1 mp gem, 2 x 99%, and one 98%
-2 mp gems, one 99%, 2 x 98%

etc...

I blew up yesterday for the first time on the 1% chance...the customer was not amused...neither was I

on expensive 99% pieces like chests, you can try to get just one mp gem off the cheap ones to bring the explosion risk to zero.

Still, there's always a risk involved with 99% gear and 99% gem. A good practice is to always warn the customer beforehand.
When it happens, I usually redo the gems for free. I won't refund the lost piece of equipment though, it's part of the gamble.
