As you should have noticed, our server's hdd has a problem. While the server tries to access some files in bad sectors unfortunately freezes are occuring.

Due to lots of donations that many players sent us, we can now effort to move to a better server, so we can solve 2 problems at once: A new harddrive and a better server! Thanks for this!

Here is an overview of the current server that you are playing on since 2 years:

• Intel™ Celeron 2.8 GHz
• 512 MB RAM
• Windows 2000 Server
• .net 2.0

Here are the specs of the new server:

• Athlon64™ DualCore 4600+
• 1.024 MB RAM
• Windows XP Professional 64-Bit
• .net 3.0

The "ordinary" lags were caused by a permanent call of the GarbageCollector of the .net, that tries to free the RAM. Depending on the CPU this progress takes it's time. If the progress is called several times at once, there can occur lags for even some seconds. With a faster CPU these processes should not be noticeable any more.

We are going to move to the new server during the next 2 weeks. We'll copy the majority of the files previously to prevent a longer downtime. Again I want to say a big thank you to all donators! :)

No data will be lost in any case. If we switch over to the other server Uthgard will be down for about 30 minutes to copy the database to the new server.
It's done when it's done. Thanks for your patience.

How are you guys getting around XP Pro's limit of 10 concurrent TCP connections? I know there's supposed to be a way to "patch" tcpip.sys but I still had the limitation even after the patch. I don't think that this limitation was introduced until Service Pack 2 though.

This could be a big problem.

The TCP/IP stack in Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed limits the number of concurrent, incomplete outbound TCP connection attempts

1.) This only applies to outbound = outgoing TCP Connections; The server only listens to connections, and does not create them.
2.) It is about connection attemps (Connections, which are initiated, but not yet completed) - A connection attempt usually only takes some milliseconds.

The only thing affected by this would be things like the IRC Bot/FTP Uploads - but those aren't in great number.
Be nice. :)

i´d prefer windows 2003 Server enterprize instead of xp.

As an exchange admin i can assure you: it´s very stable. (we got nearly 200 of them running at work)

But it´s an point of money and i think staff will do his job fine. ;-)

good luck!

omg lol :))) why do you need donations for a 300 euro pc? i thought the server runs on a way better pc, i mean ram memory is so cheap, why only 1 gb? i would go for a quad core on a Asus P5N64 WS Professional motherboard with like 2 scsi raid hdd and 4 gb ddr3 on a win 2003 server of course. I mean my mother has a better pc than your new server. This is not sarcasm, i hope you're not offended.

First of all there are costs on maintaining this service per month.
consider this:
If you rent a server, you have to pay 30 - 100 euro per month, for exp.
As far i know, is this server not sponsored by any ads.

->only donations make uthgard running.
