I used virtualization with parallels for uth 1.0 and live and have never had any problems. On a 2010 MacBook.

Just found out about this server! Haven't played DAOC in like... 10 years or more? Really looking forward to getting back into it.
 So I wanna play full on heals/support, and I'm leaning toward Hibernia. Is a heal/buff specced Druid my best choice? I mean are they the most desired support class? |

The problem is not the DAoC client itself. The client runs flawless on a runtime environment like WINE (PlayOnMac and PlayOnLinux use it) - for example by using all the nice little parameters kaisner posted. The real issue is the connection procedure with the DAoC Portal: You won't be able to connect to Uth 2.0 the same way you connected to Uth 1.0 or Genesis, because the Uth staff changed it to make it more secure. I guess it has something to do with the dotnet / mono implementation: the one running in WINE cannot handle it. If you want to know why I think that, read this: All WINE versions above 1.5 should fetch the newest mono version automatically, but the new one does not work on DAoC Portal's "connect.exe". Portal has in meanwhile become so old, that only the older mono210 works on it. When i installed it, i was able to connect to Uthgard 1, Eden, Genesis, etc. However, I believe that mono210 does not support the new functions Uthgard 2.0 uses for it's new connection. I noticed it when i tried to connect to Niflheim, which builds up the connection the same way the future Uth 2.0 will do. I didn't look further in this because when Niflheim was offline, I wasn't able to investigate further, since I was not part of the alpha testing. I wrote a lot with Liss, who spent quite some time on this issue as an alpha tester, but in the end it was rather hard to handle something without seeing it myself. I will press the tinkering once the beta opens; once I know how to handle it, I will post a dedicated thread to this issue. Last edited by Veritaas on May 04, 2016 03:21, edited 2 times in total.
