Interesting that you would try the "This game has zero chance of pulling in ANY new players whatsoever" spiel 3 posts after a guy comes to the thread and says he found this game and enjoyed it and plans to stay.....

You are just flat out wrong about this game not having the ability to appeal to new players. There's nothing else out like it, and Uthgard doesnt have a sub fee. It CAN attract new players. Its very possible. And you can still be 'lost in the world' all you need to do is unmap your M key in the options menu "brah".

There's also the point that the devs have already said they are at the very least adding static maps before launch so..... not sure where you guys motivation to argue against this small thing is even coming from really.

The reason I'm going to play on uthgard is not based on simple map alone buddy, but if I had to choose I would opt out the map, and there are people like me that do see the good side of it, and you can not disregard that.

And don't give me the just disable it crap, because you know it does not work this way.

Now we can both agree there are people there who are on the opposite side of this spectrum.

Most people play here not because there is map or there is none.

Having no map or simple map ( although its not going stay that way ) does have its own appeal for new players, who can appreciate the classic or immersive aspect it brings to the table, like a really true hardcore casuals who never going past lvl 30 or it will take them months to reach 50. Nevertheless they will play for long time, enjoying every single sessions and what experience it brings.

Like asking people he meet on hes travels, how to find camelot, because hes been lost in forest for a while. And NO being lost is not a bad thing for some people.

Boths sides needs to understand that there is more to this matter then:

" %""£$FS OMG WTF NO MAP FFS I QUIT £%£%£ "

Now when I started play here on day 1 of beta I created a char on Albion, needless to say I was completely lost... I was asking people where to go how to find stuff, traveled with them together getting familiar with Albion, made this way new friends.

We created a Guild and leveled together, simple no map made me tons of new friends that showed me the world of DAOC.
Now if I had the map perhaps I would have not had this experience.

Now you can see perhaps, how simple not having the map brings the community together, and possibly forms new in game bonds, helping to create unique experiences, exactly like having no specialized channels like LFG. ( But I not gona get into that )

This is the unique aspect of not having a map for a new player.

PS: And this is one of the reasons why devs opted out this feature, and few others who are this small gimmicks who do work in favor of the advertised "Classic" fell, and exactly why they decided to go for no tracking, which is a reasonable and good decision.

I understand there are a portion of players who feel the way you do, but I think you overestimate your position. Imo for every one player who feels this way about being lost in the wilderness there are three who question why they're spending their free time on a frustrating old game.

Hoping you meant to write 10,000 instead of a 100...but hey, this server is open to trolls and aholes just as much as anyone else. That's a big part of the reason of what makes Uthgard great and also why it still possibly has a future. Now if only we can figure out how to work our Voluntary dev's/GM's/testers harder....hmmm. ^^

megatron wrote: To whoever said to "shut the x up"... you sir can diaf and go straight to hell, I'm glad you have plenty of time to wait for the beta to drag out while your mom grills you a cheese and brings it down to the basement with the crusts cut off but those of us with jobs and lives to live would prefer not to waste what little time we have to game on a beta.

Whoops, to much time spent posting! Better get back to eating my sandwich with the crusts cut off by my (your?) Mom in her basement before I start my all night D&D roll-play with my stuffed animals and imaginary TMNT friends. Sure hope I don't run out Mountain Dew or Magic Missile spells though!!!

And to all the other non-trolls out there....

Those apocalyptic moods around here make me laugh. Uthgard is dead before it even started! How can someone truely believe that?
As long as your beta phase wont take as long as the DayZ beta, which is still going, it will be fine :-)

Just let the server start and evolve from this point.

To be honest ... why is every 2nd argument you read about: 'map'. Who needs a MAP for anything in this game? Seriously!

If you really want a map with all the informations you need: The Internet is out there. USE it. Since everyone has a smartphone anyways, use that to get along, if you do not want to tab out of the game all the time or are not using window-mode.

But why do I have to tell you lot how the world works anyways? You should all be old enough by now. This is not 2004 anymore!

It's also a somewhat fun fact that most people that want a map are those that stopped playing when ToA was released, because of that was what killed their so beloved game. Forgetting, that there had not even been a map pre-ToA.

I'm out and will maybe be back when the server goes live.

Map or no map I don't really care one way or the other; both works.

Probably many like me who don't care and thus don't post. Just felt like saying...

If you do care, download a UI...

If you want this server live asap then giving the devs less to work on would seem sensible.

I shouldn't complain though, at least people are not starting mega-rants over wanting full-on buffbots back in the game. Some folks sure want the easy road though in other things. Bleah.

I am testing! I am here now and I will be back for I50. I missed the original DAoC beta (Started Feb/2002), I ain't missing this one!
It is an honor and a privilege.

Where else on the planet are you going to find a group of people who know more about daoc than us ? (I'm not saying you and me specifically, I'm talking about Uth in general)

Also as of late I don't see a whole lot o "trolling" on this forum.

Cipherr wrote:The rabid opposition to a working map is amazing to me. Even more so from someone who claims to not even have played the game back at release. You dont even have nostalgia to point to as a reason for being against it. Adding it does absolutely NOTHING to your gaming experience, nor mine. But it does help create a slightly better chance that more casual gamers will stick around longer and eventually hit 50 and rvr.

Being against something that would only help the server while having zero drawbacks is borderline insane. Its also inconsistent, because seemingly none of the 'hardcore' players against maps, seem to be in favor of removing autoloot: which ALSO wasn't in during 1.65. A minor convenience being able to autoloot. How exactly does one separate that from the minor convenience of NOT having to window out to view a map?

Well said my friend. Very well said.
