Two harddisks broken? it looks like a motherboard failure... :?: Or maybe a HD cooling prob.

sounds like cooling problems .... add a hd cooler or extra fans to remove the heat, prolly last longer and run better.

Correct me if im wrong, but i thought that it wasnt the hdd of the staff, but one (now two) hdd of the hoster, and the hdds were built in two different setups, cause the staff rent a new serverpackage.

If the case is as I posted here, then all blame goes on the Hoster for buying crappy hardware to reduce expenses (like buying their hw on a peddlars market)

Think that reducing expenses at risk of losing customers trust isnt as profitable as some might think.

But maybe i judge wrong in this case, since Im not directly involved and not knowing how the coop between staff and hoster is. It could also be just one big bad luck thingy, with noone to be blamed.

However, if there is the idea of changing the server hoster in the near future I gladly help to finance it. Think Im going to donate 5€/month to help keeping this shard up and running.

Hopefully others get similar giving-feelings, this would not be invain for sure.

So if everything goes well, Im looking forward to see you all next week on our favourite shard (, but if its possible, dont log on at the same time, since I read something about overstressing the server with suchaction  )

Yours, Gemma

there is no white, there is no black - only different shades of grey

-bad luck
-crappy hardware
-application that pushes the harddisk too hard

Everything is possible :)

Now, this is not the place or time to blame anyone or anything. The staff is working hard to get the server up again as fast as possible - everything else is dealt with later.

no blaming going on here, its called sulking.

i think you can expect the emotions going high over the weekend, but once the server is up they all just gonna be happy to play again.

while im not happy about a server hoster who actually allows a server to be down for 5 consecutive days, its still better then having no server at all.

i just wonder, you know.
either the amount of data to be reaaplied to the server is tremendously large - or they dont do overtime / have a nightshift tech - or a very complicated setup which need to be done in a very precise order or it wont work.

i was called in for repairs while having a very bad flue on a sunday morning at 1 am during holiday season and worked on it till monday 9 pm because it was company policy to start repairs asap and work on it until its finished - and i was the only one not out of town since i was sick :)

there is no "day off" in a server farm

but at least i got a bonus for it :)

this was not a flame, blame, hatepost or being an arse, just a story.

im gonna be happy once its up again and thats it.

EDIT:
and yes, i think the staff here is outstanding and im sorry for them since they might get bashed over this from the less mature or more agressive portion of the playerbase.

Best of luck, guys.

Being in IT I cannot comprehend a host(er) like this being in business. It blows my mind.

..but this is the only shard worth playing, and I appreciate the work behind it. Thanks for the hard work :)

2 or 3 hdd's with a decent raid setup = this should never happen again.

ROFL @ Dubior!!

hahaha... trust me my gf is as thankfull :P guess it sucks that server's down but it has it's ups! :P

oh @ Gemma, although i agree with u in a way, but u can't really compare the staff/hosts to suppliers and us players to customers.. cuz that doesn't define the relationship of the two.
So basically u can't blame the hosters in the sense that they're not really getting paid to do this "job". I'm sure no one would intentionally buy crappy hardware in the first place..

anyways, gl to the staff once again.. keep up the good work! :)

I think u got me wrong, i wasnt complaining about the staff. I know that they are doing this for free, and that we arent customers.

BUT the staff is customer to the serverhoster(Manitu), cause the serverhoster charges money for the service of providing a server whicj the staff can use. That is what bothers me! The Hoster (again not the Uthgard-Staff) charges money for a service, but obvisiouly cant fully render it. Or in other words: They collect the warm proceeds, and the staff is left out in the cold.
That is just not how the service sector should work!
