Today I made a mistake on the server and lost all accounts. So I had to recover to our latest backup 14:00 (GMT+1) today. So its possible that you lost some hours if you played today (24.01.).

Sorry for this.

great, my group made lvl 30-35 yesterday in a power session. this sucks big time. wtf arent you doing your backup more often.

Blue made a mistake, but he stayed online and did his best to save our chars, etc.

So there is no need to blame him.

what a nice reaction heinoid...i think it's bad for everybody but we can't blame blue in anycase. he works for us and get not often a thx but when a mistake is done, you can be sure there will be people to point this problem.

even not 24hours rollback i remember the old time of the server when he was down 12 hours/day and you got from times to times rollbacks of 3 or 4 days.

so thanks for all the work that has been done since this old time

now i can't say i'm happy with it, but better than losing all chars - good thing i didn't stay on all night and craft as planned ^^

Sometimes it just happens - counting all the things blue has done so far for the server, there were very few things going wrong till now - it's a testserver, after all

It sure does. No-one likes to spend time for nothing. However, this is an online game and such things happen (even on official servers!). Don't know how long you are with us - looking at your post count it can't be too long, though. Just ask some other players when the last rollback occurred. Think it must have been months ago...

Two words: performance and practibility.

check my date of registration, t-man, so you know how long im with you.
fact is, at the moment the server perfomance is low anyway, so a more frequent backup wouldnt hurt much.
im not blaming anyone, but a db backup is an automatic process which doesnt need any time effords from the admins. so why not just set it to 6h instead of 24h.

Because this would cause major lags. When we would do this, we had to shutdown the server every 6h too. And for such rare cases like this its quite ok to wait for next reboot to create the next backup. I cannot remember the last rollback and I dont think there was one in whole 2006.

Besides having a 6 hours rollback people would still complain nonetheless.

I remember some years ago when rollbacks was each 2 days ! it was the hell ! and it was a couple of days back !

Now it's just one rollback, and just some hours, yes it's not very fun, but blue has done so much good work in the past (and in the future ) and he is not paid !

Although of course no one likes accidents, they do happen and the up-front honest information about this is a very very positive attribute.

Never saw this anywhere else (although accidents happened...).

Well Im happy that the staff does such a good job. This is the first rollback
I ever mentioned on Uthgard and this one is only a ~12hours rollback.
I can remember when on live servers a player hacked a GM account and
spawned dragons in Emain Macha (main rvr zone). After this GOA did a
think it was about 1week rollback to ensure that there are no cheated items etc.
