sorry if TLDR, but theres a lot of info behind a simple question.

So I finally got my hybrid pally to 49 and templated. After countless hours of brutal pve just to gain an extra 131 spec pts (I specced chants at 40) I am beginning to wonder if there is any value at all in speccing twohanded on Uthgard.

As a hybrid pally, my main goals are to be an efficient peel tank. slam -> switch to 2h -> snare
on live this is typically done with the spec of:
44 chants (soul ward)
42 shield (slam)
39 2h (for rear hinder)
29 slash (ammy slash)

But uthgard has a nifty difference in the twohanded line. the lvl 4 style "Doubleback" rear positional on uthgard is a 14 second rear hinder. sure this isnt as good as the lvl 39 rear hinder that is 27 seconds. but it still snares just fine for peeling.

this opens up a lot of specs with much lower twohanded. possible toppign pts being:
21 (2 part anytime chain, 11 second snare. shorter snare than thrust chain, but better to-hit)
15 (side positional .9 GR, 14 second snare, note redundant with lvl 21 slash style "side slicer" 12 sec snare)
4 (rear positional, 14 second snare)

So now im wondering, what is a typical hybrid pally spec?
Personally I'm not entirely ready to give up on the idea of 39 twohanded. having the option of moderate dps is nice. but being able to lower my weapon spec to maximize the s/s mode utility would also be helpful.
PS, im saracen with 15 dex/10 con on creation. so my STR blows, but i block a ton.

---------
should I look at an alternative setup ignoring most of 2h and instead go?:
50 shield
48 chants
29 slash
5 twohanded (min 4, using the extra few spec pts)
20 parry (leftovers).

im told that weaponskill doesnt impact to-hit on uthgard, so in theory 4 twohanded should land just as often as 39 twohanded (if not more often due to the style having medium to-hit instead of low).

---------------------
TLDR summary for those with ADHD:
1) lvl 4 twohanded style on uthgard is a rear snare.
2) what is a good hybrid spec (assuming 131 AT pts)?

I have been playing a friends pala a little when we have been short who is hybrid specced(27slash 42 shield 42 chants and 39 2hand - No AT I guess).

I dont know if its displaying wrong or its supposed to be as it is, but the level 39 2hand style delves as a 12 second snare, so yeh, seems pretty pointless. DMG is about 200 when fully buffed on scale(with a 4.4spd sword), but you are never fully buffed(ae str/con, base str if lucky).

OMG. the lvl 39 style is only 12 seconds here?

well... that pretty much seals the deal for lowering 2h spec. I was looking forward to that 27 second snare too :(

Go thrust spec , shield chants and parry , forget about 2h because you have second in a row snare style on thrust, and u r s/s the way a pala should be :).

I've been havign a similar conversation abotu 44 thrust with a guildy.

So you suggest something like:
44 thrust
42 shield
46 chants
9 parry
5 Twohanded (or 10 parry, 3 twohanded)
12 slash (ATed)

Specs like that seem common on this server, but to me it seems like a lot of spec points to give up for an anytime snare chain. on the upside, my dmg might be ok (for a paladin) as a saracen with 44 weapon spec.

--------------
with 29 slash and 4 twohanded tho, Id have a side snare (slash lvl 21) and a rear snare (2h lvl 4). im not sure there is a case other than solo where i might want a 2 part anytime snare where a positional wouldnt work.

going 29 slash instead of 44 thrust, i could go 42 shield and as high as 36 parry (probably a waste due to parry cap), which would be a whopping 13.5% higher personnal defences given up to go 44 thrust. or I could give up 16 of those pts in parry to gain some group utility by goign 20 parry, 50 shield and 48 chants.
The min/maxer in me did soem brief number crunching comparing the parry vs shield/chants...
- 50 shield this would gain me a marginally better block rate for guard (+4%) with a net personal defence difference of 4 to 6% (assuming parry didnt already cap) of -4% vs most and -6% vs DW.
- 48 chants gains the last AF chant, which goes from 99 to 127 delve. iir, that gets a 125% spec buff bonus, making the 28 delve difference actually add 35 AF for group memebrs not already buffed with spec af. net personal defence gain assuming about 950-1000 AF ~= +3 to 4% when chant is up.
- Net personal defence changes in spec change ~= 0 to 6% depending on chants & opponent spec. so with good chant usage I it would be almost a wash personnaly to gain some serious group utility.

---------------------------
counterargument for thrust spec:
1) dont have to switch out of s/s to snare. if target is stun immune or if multiple targets are beating on the guarded player (not an uncommon situation), switching to 2h to snare opens up them to attacks. uthgard isnt like live where bodyguard can fill this gap. as soon as the shield goes away, people start takign serious dps.
2) loss of side snare isnt important with gain of anytime. side positionals are a pain to get off when your support runs around like a chicken with their head cut off.
3) higher dmg for solo.
4) gain more benefit at higher rr from aug dex RA (instead of only being a defencive RA to raise block/parry and shield dmg, it would also increase weapon dmg).
5) 50 shield isnt important. 42 shield seems to be the standard for a reason. minimal gains (4%) for high spec costs (372 pts).
6) 50 shield last style is a moot point because endo usage isnt an issue as a pally, and with stun immunity beign 5x the stun timer. so longer stun=longer immunity.

To hybrid is now a mix between the two variants. When we speak of a hybrid talents Paladin usually when both of these two-handed and shield has trained.

Unlike, say, the Champion of the Paladin does not have enough skill points left to sign on and two-hand 50 (or 42 at the sign according to taste) to spec, for the necessary points to be invested in auras. This leads to some of the paladin spec, such as two-hand 39 42 44 Shield auras rest in 1h weapon skills, often without knowing what they do here really.

A RR11 Paladin with 39 +21 two-handed, for example, makes 18.3% grade times more damage than a paladin with 50 +21 average (mind always at the same rate Groth styles), the lower RR decreases this difference even further. For comparison, a paladin with 50 +21 two-handed makes 45.5% more damage than average with 50 +21.

Surely you can get for this spec, for example, the snare of the Doppler (two-handed style) is dispensed but also on auras, 1h weapons capability, and perhaps on 50 plate. Whether the value must know yourself but everyone is. Only the mistaken belief they would do with the little Hybridspec and then in two-hand a lot more damage that we should not succumb.

Who wants to calculate the difference for his spec even here the formula for the difference of the base damage (ie without styles): (2hspec + rrbonus + itembonus) * (1.1 + 0.005 * (2hspec + rrbonus + itembonus)) / (1hspec + rrbonus itembonus +)
