If you intend on mainly soloing you really can't go wrong with a friar since they have self buffs.

I'd play Minstrel if I were you.

It's really hard to play solo RvR on Uthgard, cause of stealth zerg and many fgs kill soloers. Minstrel is a decent 1 vs 1 class, you can hide against fgs/smallgroups and you can roam cause you have a nice speed. Plus with Old Ras it will be a nice class to have in alb groups, so you can even do some 8 vs 8 if are bored to solo.

minstrel is a more advanced class I think. They are also kind of painful to level solo because you basically have very little damage and although you never die and can chain yellows, it takes as long as paladin to kill them.

I would definitely choose cabalist as my first toon for several reasons:
1 - very fast leveling and great solo class
2 - very useful in groups in RVR
3 - matter spec is great for PVE and PVP
4 - money cow.
5 - easy to play once you figure out the mechanics

disadvantage of course is that it's a caster class and soloing in rvr might be tricky, but i've seen caba solo a whole fg a few times. cast juggernaut, hide somewhere safe, put a damage shield on it and aggro the group's caster.
caster panics and starts running in circles scream "get it off me"
group starts attacking the jugger because they have no idea where you are
damage shield does massive damage on everyone who attacks it and jugger heals itself with constant life taps

groups dies within a minute

Friar is a great pve class and does okay in pvp, but its hard to find solo enemies nowadays and like someone mentioned, zergs will definitely get you.
