How is the polearm dmg, is it like how it was in classic? or is it more like live?

maybe you have to tell us where is the difference between 1.69 and now on live?

only difference are ToA boni (that do not exist here, like +x% styledamage)
and styles changed (mostly the GR raised time by time)

Also, what people tend to remember from 'classic' is the damage on blue enemies in drop armor. Pole dmg is decent and in line with other 2h weapons I think, but armsman doesn't have charge, obviously, which is somewhat OP'd on Uthgard. Therefore, you don't really see many armsmen here - the class is not gimped, but simply not as useful in a standard alb groups as a mercenary (or even reaver with the lolzwtf-dmg spikes and broken positional style system).
