Never played a sorc, thinking about maybe trying one. My question is, do sorcs do decent damage or if someone catches me off guard 1v1 am I just obsolete?

What should my spec be right off the start? And is a Avalonian or a Inc better for the race?

And is there any Auto traininh that I need to do?

Saracan all the way for more dex.

I'm not really sure on leveling specs... You'll probably be able to group a lot, so a high Mind spec for power regen and aoe mez is helpful to groups. Maybe keep Mind at a few points below your level and then the rest in Body.

Something like 44 Mind / 31 Body is close to an end game spec.

Avalonians are very cool looking, and are not a bad choice, but if you want to min/max I believe your choices should be between an Inconnu, and a Saracen. Avalonians get a boost to quickness (a useless stat for you), and while their constitution suffers, making you easier to kill. Saracens and Inconnus are smaller and sneakier, have boosts to dexterity (a little less for Inconnus, but they get a bonus to Intelligence as well), and they both have better racial resists (5% to heat, which will help against Hibernians).

Also, there is no auto training to worry about, for a Sorc.

All depend your spec.

Depends on your spec:

Mind:
AE Mezz, Mes Damp, Charm (caster pets got decent dps for PvE), Mana Reg.
Very usefull for grp (mana reg and dd/heal/buff-pet).

Body:
Heat debuff (every fire wiz will love you, especially in RvR), Specced DD.
If you team up with a Mind-cabalist or Tri-Spec Cabalist (basicly RvR) and you nuke on his Body Debuff, you will see what dmg means
In the old times, proper RvR cabalists were rare, so body sorcs were rare too

Most sorcs spec mind, because it is needed for PvE (Mana reg) and RvR-Groups (ae mezz, mez damp, mana reg). With a proper casting pet Solo PvE is quite easy too.

Level on mind, but end game supreme is 40 Body 36 Mind. Yellow everything (AE mez, AE root, POM, etc..) and killer lifetap damage. Saracen is the only choice. You can group or solo rvr all you want. Probably the best caster in the game For rvr with that spec.

I love absolute statements like this. In reality, when you are all geared up and level 50, 20 more dex isn't going to make that much of a difference in cast speed. Hell, your latency to the server will probably have a bigger effect than 20 dex will. Your nukes will hit a little harder with the 20 more int from an Avalonian. It's just a choice to make and despite the absolute statements here, there is no right or wrong choice.

You sir are a noob! Ever heard of Dex breakpoints?

Sorc damage per hit is so so. An avalonian won't help that. Speed kills, saracen.
