Heya,

I played Hib the whole time and want to change to Alb.

Are there frequent dragonraids and maybe other PvE "Raids" or farmgroups going on on Alb?

And if yes, which Char would you recommend for this?

On Hib thereve been dragonraids on a daily basis which I joined most of the time and Im planning this for Alb too. Also DF raids and farmgroups.

My first thought is a Paladin with Slash Autotrain?

Im still not sure about my RvR char, but I guess I wont get many groups with the Paladin in RvR. So maybe a Minstrel to cover both might be a good idea too?

Thanks for your help

Dragon raids are rare, but I find you can get a group going for smaller raids if you take the time to assemble it. Even during low times.

Easiest route in all respects would be a Cleric. Levels easily with any Necro you can find, or in a group, always needed in raids, and essential for RvR. I find they are most often the limiting factor in any group trying to fill up.

Paladins are very important for raids, but leveling and RvR are more likely to give you a headache. Minstrels are similarly difficult to level, aren't as needed for raiding, and I find most players on Minstrels don't like playing them in RvR how they are supposed to. Only choose Minst if you really want challenging and mostly stressful play. :-P

Thanks for your answer.
I wanted to go the paladin route because I really enjoy PVE. Leveling if getting groups isnt too hard and the raids like dragon and DF. But if dragonraids are that rare on Alb, maybe i am better off going for the necro instead.

And i am Not that interested in a cleric, i think.

Seems like there arent many other options.

Im still not sure about my RvR class, maybe arms/merc or wiz. But the right pve class is my priority at the Moment ;)

Edit: Why do you think leveling a paladin will give me headache?! No groups on Alb?

Because i played alb a lot since a few days ago i can answer your question.

As a paladin you will ALWAYS ! find xp grps to lvl with. Palas are rare..i never had more than 1 in my xp grps..from 5 to ~ 27+.

Dunno how it is later but i always saw people searching for pala.

I guess he said that @ headdache bec. playing pala is kinda boring or can be kinda boring ;).
Its a good choice for people who likes to do PVE !

Enjoy pal:)

There are several issues with palys in RvR.

1st is endo chant is only 1k range. PvE groups are usually within 1k range so it works good.

In RvR groups are mostly spead out. Meaning, few if any of the groupmates get endo chant.

This forces many albs to run end pots instead. And if your running end pots....why invite a paly?

2nd issue is palys dont get access to Determination. This means palys can be CC'd very easily. This makes point 1 worse sense palys have a hard time keeping up with the tank train, leaving him over 1k away quite often.

3rd, palys strength comes from twisting chants together. While it is tedious to do in pve, its easy enough, and very effective. But in rvr 99% of the player base lack the skill to both twist chants and keep up with the battle since your literally strumming your fingers over 4+ keys every 6 secs, another hand for movement and still need to find a way to use your styles in sync.

Now they make programs to help with twisting but they are banned on this server. Its a big no no.

Also since endo chant takes power to run you cant keep it up forever, so you gotta turn it on and off repeatidly anyways. This means your constantly taking 5% endo hits just to cast endo chant. So you need LW2.

Now of course everyone will say you just need to learn to play and that all the weaknesses can be overcome.

But most people who start palys end up rerolling once they start pvping. Which is why there are so few rr5+ palys, even though theres an abudance of rr5+ bards/shamans

Pally very needed in PvE, but you are not well rewarded, player will ask you to DPS even though you hit like a cockroach. You can't even act like a Bot cause you have to keep twisting chants and watch your mana. Other endo classes have something easy to do: Healing/Buffing.

You try to help your realm by rolling a pally, and in the end you can't even RvR with it, while all your realm mates will be able to. So people should be thankful even if you decide to sit with endo chant on and pom 3 (infinite mana) and not do anything else (ENDO BOT).

In case you want to roll another char, you should take anything that does not have endo issue (merc, armsman, reaver, scout, infil) cause you take 3x-4x more time to level than other classes on alb.

I suggest you go Sorc for RvR and maybe Friar for PvE cause you can still heal/buff and you don't have to worry about your endo.
Reminder to Self: Quality over Quantity, what is the Value here?

Abydos has said that Dragons are getting a revamp at some point. After that, Dragon raids will probably be a lot more frequent. When I said Paladin is a headache, I mostly meant in comparison to a Cleric. I think they are actually one of the most fun tanks to level in Albion (as long as you don't AT Chants), if you get satisfaction out of twisting effectively. That being said, leveling in a regular group setup is very grindy, and depending on how you feel about AT you will be balancing feelings of both regret and relief your whole time leveling.

Everything said already about Paladins is mostly accurate. There are a few group comps that they work in for competitive play, but you can't rely on those few comps to get an 8v8 group consistently. Friar is probably the most fun character to play in PvE on Alb, but is a hard class to play properly in 8v8. Even then, it only fits in a fairly specific group comp, so you will have a tough time getting into competitive groups. If you want to play a Paladin, Friar or other non-meta class, I would recommend also making a character that fits well into the majority of competitive groups. Unless you aren't too worried about competitive RvR

I hear a lot of people complaining about Clerics being boring because they don't have quite as many responsibilities as their counterparts, but I see very few that are playing them well enough that they could say they are near the class's skill ceiling. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just think that the most fun and interesting part of this game is positioning and teamwork, and IMO you don't need 5 Qbars full of abilities for that.

I also just wanted to mention Minstrels. They are similar to Clerics in that they are needed in every part of the game (raiding, 8v8, zerg fights, small man, etc.) But they differ in that they are a difficult class to play at even a basic level, and at the other end they have one of the highest skill caps in the game. In PvE you must be constantly mezzing, twisting songs, and charming your pet to match what a Sorc does casually. In 8v8 your role is usually the most dangerous, while carrying some of the heaviest responsibilities, and on top of that you will usually be expected to keep a red pet charmed. I'm rolling a Minst myself, specifically because so few of them are willing to keep a red pet! :-P
