I'm considering 2 spec choices for my Thane in Braemar:

Spec #1
35 Stormcalling
25 Hammer
23 Shield
5 Parry

Spec #2
30 Stormcalling
29 Hammer
23 Shield
11 Parry

Spec #1 gives me next tier of instas and AoE Hammers

Spec #2 gives me higher weapon spec and conquer backsnare style

I intend to mainly run in a skald duo, but not all the time. Any advice which spec I should go with?[/u]

#2 You don't gain much with better aoe and conquer is a really nice style.

Hmm, yes. But I am missing some bursting capability by not picking up the next insta DDs, which would be nice to have in a skald duo.

True, your choice in the end really both specs have their ups and down. Personally I would go for conquer because it's such a sweet snare, maybe you won't need it because skald has one but it can be resisted etc. it all depends on the situation. Sometimes you'll miss the snare, sometimes you'll miss a little extra burst damage ^^

Mezz, stun, root, more than 1 target, it's a positional style. Anything there ring a bell ?

#2 is by far the most effective braemar thane spec. there is no comparison. thane gotta rely on his hammer, damage spells arent very reliable or even that useful without mastery of magery or wild power. a caster thane is not useful in rvr. thane got no spells that any other caster cant do better, so their only real use in rvr is the shield and hammer.

Is hammer always better than axe/sword for thane? I was thinking of going axe for style reasons?

Yes, it actually is.

Lower end cost for styles, best backsnare and decent dmg.

not necessarily. thane self buffs are uber in 1v1, but nothing you can't get in a group. if u plan to make a non stealther soloer, thane isn't an entirely bad choice. but that is no reason to focus on stormcalling line. they still are much stronger with a hammer/shield focused spec.
