I was playing a hunter on live in Classic/SI.

The class is really fine but playstyle differs a lot from new RA setups.

I cannot remember my exact spec. I know I was having 35 Bow spec (rapid fire, only small increases for more than 50 Bow total), 44+ Spear (follow up to rear stun) and 33 BC spec (best pet, speed buff). RA's I was having True Sight, IP, Purge and Avaoid Pain III.

I was playing in random groups, stealth groups, duo and solo - and I was loving my hunter. Due to your pet you could take out one Scout completely (Slam? Who cares?), you could kite assassins that got the jump on you (well this won't work in emain *g*). But you have to remember, with MoS you could avoid assassins and/or actively hunt assassins. Now, things have changed - now you are the hunted person. Make use of it, by chosing good positions, be patient and wait for the right time.

If you want an impression of what a hunter can do on a classic setup, try to find videos made by Lukiel. Great stuff.

Compared with a scout, i would go for the hunter every time. Rangers, hmm, depends on your playstyle.

If I remember they were lousy in classic because spear dmg was screwed up but really its been a LONG time and I could be wrong.

I thought I remember Scouts being the best dps with rangers and distant 2nd and hunters an even more distant 3rd because of short bow range and lower dps bows with faster shot rate which doesn't help your initial dmg.

If a scout comes up against another archer or stealthier how do they generally do against them if they have similar RA's and gear?

As far as I remember, the Hunter is the weakest of the three archers.
Hunters get evade 2 where as the other archers get evade 3, Midgard also has the complication of not having bows as slow (heavy) as Albion and Hibernia, so weaker archery DPS by comparison.

This and that evade gets a bonus vs 2H weapons and that Mid leather and RF resist tables if vs Blades. But one of my greatest enemies was a well played Hunter on my Ranger so it depends on the player for sure

Afair there was no bonus for evade vs 2H. You had to face the normal evade rate which was capped at 50%. On the other side, 2H had a bonus vs. Parry und did halve the opponents chance to parry.

Reinforced was a great armor type. Sure, weak to slash, but hardly any stealther was running slash, because slash (100% str) was very vulnerable to str/con poisons...
Because nearly every stealther was running Pierce or Thrust, Hunters often had the privilege of having another 10% resis bonus.

In contrast to other stealthers, hunters can use slash und thrust with one weapon spec - a big advantage.

My buddy is playing a hunter regardless of what everyone else is QQ'ing about.

Last night we grouped, shaman hunter combo. we were wrecking ******. He does a ton of dmg but hes a glass cannon.
If using a bow on midgard is what your looking for, you should defiantly try the hunter regardless of what everyone says.

I feel the hunter is going to be badass, you can send your pet on casters and have them interupt them non stop, you can do insane dmg, just stay stealthed with your group so they dont attack you first.

Please forget how good Hunters are on live or how they were in Uthgard 1.0.

Hunters will be fodder for both archers and assassins.
Hunters will be the weakest of all stealthers on 2.0 for a few reasons on this patch:

Vs archers:
-Evade II : All other archers will have Evade 3
-Self buffs: Lower delve versions of the spells: +42(yellow buff) (instad of +63) , AND +50(red buff) (instead of +72)
-Wolfie pets: They still don't have any of their abilities , dash, styles, disease. That hasn't changed
-Scouts have one more purchaseable physical PASSIVE form of mitigation - Ex: Scouts (block/dodger), Rangers (Dodger/Avoid pain like Hunters) ; whilst hunters get dodger, they have to activate Avoid pain , not active all the time...
-Typical hunter stuff: they have the shortest range on bows, fastests bows.. but we all know that. That hasn't changed.
-True sight (this applies to all archers)
-Purge: on a 30min timer =[ .. good luck vs scouts

Vs assassins
-See hidden (this applies to all archers)...
-Purge 30 min timer..

With this in mind , just play what you like. I played in Lancelot server under these rules and I had a lot of fun. Even though it was very frustrating at times. :)

spear hunter will have highest ws, def penetration and melee dmg then others archers and when you attack someone in melee with the pet you are in 2v1 so you half his chance of parry/evade/block with small shield

I might play a hunter since it's a challenge and they are quite good for adding :P
Vs Scouts all you need is money and not beeing lazy by charging MHB + SC all the time to survive the stun.
After that it's *gg* due to custom 1.110++ no backpaddle patch.
The evade rate or defense of any enemy shouldn't be a problem since judging the low damage table it's godlike strafing or lose anyway 8)
Apparently Skald is a bad partner for a duo and scout + minstrel or bard + NS is way superior so I might end up somewhere else playing the forum warrior game, telling everyone how strong hunter is but not actually playing one

But if you go for a hunter all you need to get on a competitive level is:
    a) learn how to back stun
    b) test which bow works best for 2x crit shot
-> get them down to 70 % -> back stun -> 2x crit shot -> hope they are dead and they don't have a friend interrupting your crit shot ^^

Ps: If this doesn't do the trick simply use s/c debuff and snare poison + disease
