There is a difference between "fine" and "not working as intended"... as for archery in 1.65 i read a reasonable post about why archery damage is bugged in 1.65... too bad i can't find it now :-P but there seems to be something wrong with the damage calculation equation for bows. Of course you can still rock with hunter but you will have a problem with equally strong enemies.

Hunters really aren't that bad.

A Hunter was my only toon until i did quit Midgard when new frontiers was released, so I know the problems hunters were facing with 1.65.

If you're only used to play an archer with new ra, this will be a completely different world. The biggest problems you are facing are See Hidden and Shields. See Hidden was terrible, really - but you get used to it. After a while you know, where to go when Camouflage is down and how to move to prevent PA from most enemies. Shields block all of your arrows, therefore, forget about attacking shield tanks. It can be made, but the shield tank has to be really, really dumb to ever lose against an archer in 1.65.

If you consider, that you are the hunted now in 1.65, you have already learned a lot. The times you could walk across bridges with high mos and hunt assassins have passed now. If caouflage and true sight are down you gotta be patient, snaek near a hotspot and wait for your chance. It will not take long until some enemie stealthers will pop up and fight against each other or visibles. Now is your chance to get into action. Yeah, it is adding, but adding stealthgroups - who cares? Make use of your critshot against enemie archers, not only one critshot, very often also the second critshot will hit for full damage (ok, a good scout will be fast enough to switch to his shield and block, but rangers will eat two critshots most of the time). Learn to use your pet wisely, it is stronger, especially in an environment withour BB's than you may think.

Buy the right RA's Active wins! True Sight, Purge, IP, Avoid Pain III are your best friends. Get the best available Hybrid Spec (imo 35 Bow, at least 39 Spear, at least 32 Pet) for you, do not expect to be a 1s1 beast and have fun with his class.

To cut a long story short. I loved my old dwarven hunter on Avalon and if I would be playing in Midgard, I would be running a Hunter for sure.

I dont doubt it, archery damage never really scaled very well with higher specs as running 35ish archery with skills elsewhere was more effective in the end game. 50 archery specced archers should be able to absolutely hammer casters, but they never really could. The mid specced archery archer classes were far better at fighting other stealthers.

But when they changed archers to effectively become casters, they broke the class.

I'm not talking about archery spec problems ... Have a look at tests from this thread: https://www.uthgard.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=137&t=38582&start=15

It seems as the dex/quick calculation for bow damage is messed up.
