Hi there, I'm going to start a new char, will use it mostly alone coz of my boss and gf often agro me, which one do you think will perform better between skald and thane?
I'm pretty sure that skald with add damage and heal song is thebet choice for soloing, but I want to be sure of it :)

PS don't tell me that sm summoning is better, I want to choose between skald and thane, thanks!

actually thane... the lower damage you get because of shield spec + parry is worth way more than the heal song

and thane also has a self-dmg add buff, as well as self str/con buff, insta DDs and DD casts so overall for solo farming and lvling thane >>> skald

for solo rvr it would as always be a question of what you like better...

Between the two I would say skald myself. Downtime will be less with healing chant and damage add. Not to mention speed to get around. Also there are times you will get groups. More love for skalds I would say. Now personally I would go either SM or RM if you were going to solo and gold was tight. Gear costs for most classes can be rough. With a caster you really only need to keep your staff at level for better power management. Just my 2-cents.

Solo Thane with campfire can´t be beaten when it comes to a solofarming tank i would say.S/C,Damage Add, and casts to weaken enemys before they inc clearly beat Healthregen songs.

I would pick Thane because he can spec shield and vs higher mobs (red con for lvl50) defense is more important than damage.

As a solochar thane is better than skald in both rvr and pve.

Oki, I'll go for thane then. Considering that it will be used at lvl 50 only for farming and then in future (maybe) respeccd for rvr, which spec would you suggest for soloing in pve?

I've been reading something around and found this:

...50hammer, 50sc, 27parry (+ some MoParry) and 10shield is a extremly fun 2-handed pve spec.

Is it the most effective and fast going spec for pve thane? Sry but I've never played a shield tank/thane in my life ^^. So at the end of the day, for PVE:

1) Race, starting points?
2) Spec?
3) 3L0 pve ras?

Thx to thane experts :!:

46stormcalling (last dmg add and aoe), 42shield(good defense and slam), 39hammer (good hammer dmg in melee), 20parry (combined with shield should mean you dont take much dmg)

frostalf - 15dex, 10str for the highest defense of all the races and also ok casting for farming and ok dmg.

can get serenity 4 and MoBlock 3 at 4L0 (easily achieved in the battlegrounds)

that should be good for farming :)

I would go for 50 stormcalling, 42 shield, 39 hammer, 6 parry
You will have last cast-dd and best str/con buff - will give you maxbonus +93 str/con.

Race:
Norseman - 10 str - 10 con - 10 dex

RAs:
Mastery of Block 3
Mystic Crystal Lore 2
Serenity 2
(need 3L9)

It worked fine for me, but I have to say it was after the Thane love patch - he got dd damage on hammerstyles and reactive buffs.

@Cadam,
yes i did play a Thane.Obviously you didn´t o_0.Or you are not capable of doing so.Else you wouldn´t say a Skald could beat a Thane 1on1.

U guys are giving a great importance to stormcalling, this means that the MAYOR part of the damage dealt to a mob is dealt by cast/instant spells. Is that right?

- If that's right, why don't u place 10 piety in starting points? (U know 10 dex doesn't affect block rate that much, check and download DAoC charplan).

- If that's not right, why not going 50 weapon?

Thane gains: STR ,PIE ,CON as attributes, so there is no bonus to dex and it's for blocking and hitting with melee.

It's a hybrid so why not have full benefit of Stormcalling - when you want full melee damage go berserker.
