In group settings are they fun? Can they actually put out damage decent damage besides interrupts and buffs? And what would be the best spec geared towards 8 man rvr? Thanks very much and would appreciate any other thoughts on them.

Very fun imo but not for damage.
Again, imo:
at least 27 in Cave (for instant pbaoe disease)
at least 42 in Aug (for red endo)
at least 6 in Mend for cure disease

After that point:
you could get a little more in Cave for a better aoe root
or go higher in Aug for red heat resist (good vs hibs), red cold resist (good vs dragon), and red str/con good for your tanks.

Thanks for the response, I was a Dark RM my whole Dark Age experience and am used to melting guys quickly so I wasn't sure if lack of damage would drive me nuts on a Shaman o or if it's rewarding to DOT and interrupt guys

Well you won't dot in 8v8 but I found it very satisfying to rupt and support (and I don't really like playing healers). That being said, I played on Gareth and the classic live servers, so I had buff shears at that time as well. But hey you'll get groups about 1000x faster as shaman than a dark rm.

It's alright, the pros are that every group needs a Shaman, the cons are that it can feel like you don't have much outside of your buffs and you'll feel like you have the biggest bullseye on your head ever.

No shears at 1.65. Think of how bored Clerics will be. :(
[3:10pm] <myrmidon^> You have to be a c*** to be awesome at daoc
[3:10pm] <myrmidon^> that's what I learnt
[3:11pm] <Frosty_> then why does austerim suck
lordgriffon wrote:Oh by the way... ever seen a group of 8 smite clerics? Or play against a group like that? I have. Absolute devastation. The group that runs up against them can't kill them fast enough because smite clerics have sooooooo many tools at their disposal combined with decent ranged damage with 8 of them dudes doing it!

I think even with buff shear, I'd roll shaman if dwarf was still an option.

Sad sad.

The group HoT is also OP as hell if you went the healer road.

When I saw the thread title the little sound clip of the troll wife yelling "RUNENTAL!" from his video played in my head.

I thought the group HoT was pretty crappy for a long time. I must be thinking of a different period in the game.

also, theres other specs you can go, personally i go 42 aug for red end, then the rest into mending. nobody ever expects a shaman to hold their own in the healing department. my former troll shaman can testify to that. with a good group who knows how to peel an enemy off somebody while still maintaining combat your shaman can save the battle, i know, i've done it with heals.

a little tougher in the gameplay, but if you can learn to make it work, i personally like it.
