If you plan to melee Spear is better. Higher any-time style growth chain, 12 second snare on Wounding Thrust, and of course the back-stun. Using a dex/str weapon makes you less vulnerable to STR/CON poison. Your only stat buff is dex/qui so even if you're a Norse your damage stat will be higher with a spear unless you want to waste RPs on Aug Str.

Sword was never designed with the Hunter class in mind. Lots of reactionary styles that are wasted on a class with Evade 3 as its only defensive skill. The evade-stun is hard to land and Ragnarok is a pipe-dream.

I only spec sword to use poison.

I've done a lot of tests concerning spear and sword for my hunter and i've tried both spec.

Even with the yellow self d/q buff on i see that the sword dmg is better on my norse, the problem is: you will be evaded 85% of the times because of you low str -> low weaponskill (i reach 1100+ full buffed - too poor to hit an evade7 assassin).

I think sword could be good later, at higher RR, when you have points for aug str and maybe a super luxury s/c charge item (- little and not polemic OT - oh yes, uthgard aim is to be a classic live-like server, but the gms decided to change the classic live-like state of things where only mids have s/c charge item, dropped by a common red mob in Malmo and to switch that item on Legion for all realms, so on a real classic live-like there's non need to farm Legion or Churiel 100000000000000 times to have s/c charges in mid: so the problem to live with classic daoc is just concerning mids and maybe albs, if you're an hib just QQ and you will have it  ).

Good luck and have fun with this wonderful class. <- I'm not ironic.

EDIT: forgot to say that actually i spec back spear.

Weaponskill has no effect on evade rate on Uthgard. This is one of the reasons why the Hunter performs so poorly in melee.

Actually i'm spear specced, with 1300+ WS, now an assassin can evade me max 2 times in a fight. With sword i reached incredibly rates like 6/8 or 11/12 in a fight.

Go do a real test instead of trusting your gut, I think you'll be surprised.

Probably you don't understand: with "spear specced" i mean that i use spear instead of sword, but my skill spec is the same, i'm 44 spear now and i was 44 sword before, so nothing changed except that spear is str/dex based while sword is pure str.

so if you did a real test post the logs.

if you're trusting the way the new spec feels in rvr, do a real test.

Why? So you can trust me? I don't care about that. :P

I've done real tests before i decided my actual spec: it costs me about 6 plats in respec stones and an entire day hitting the lvl 50 doll.
But the tests i've done are based on my char stats, on the weapons i want to use, on the self buffs that my spec allow me to use, ecc...
For all this things i don't want to share logs.

But Vecinge simply ask: is sword better than spear?
This is a big question. I simply answered that sword is better dmg than spear (obvously if you are full buffed - with only self buff on spear is better, but who do rvr with only self on? -), but if you want to do dmg you have to hit the enemy, and this was my problem in the meanwhile i've tested sword spec in RvR.
After that, there are a lot of things that you have to consider before you decide to go sword o spear: play stile, global spec, race of your toon ecc.

Have a good day.

Are you actually able to read and understand?
I tested DAMAGE by hitting a test doll all day, and i repeat the test full buffed, without buff at all, and with only self buffs on.

Hey Force, do you have some problem? Or are you just trolling me?
However, i think it's useless to continue this discussion with you.

@ Vercinge: Hope my answer has been helpful.

Are you able to recall what you actually type?

Substantiate this claim. I'm talking about evade rate, since testing has shown what you claimed to be false.

For the last time:

- the tests i've done on doll have had the aim to calculate the difference in DAMAGE between spear and sword. That has nothing to do with evade rate.

- what i've wrote about evade rate is something i've tested parsing the fights logs and calculating evade and missing rate in two weeks of incs in RvR.

So the two sentences you quoted has nothing to do each other.
Hope now is more clear.

And now really... /ignore
