Go Spear ^^

Spear is 1/2 Dex 1/2 str

Spear is based on half dex and half str. Sword only str.

Actually, there is topic running in midgard forum http://uthgard-server.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=18231 Named Hunter spear or sword.

Take a look. Atm, theres isn't a answer like go spear or sword. It depends on many different things and what you are planning to do. It seems like spear-specc is the better choice for melee (for me). I hope that helps somehow :)

for the hunter nothing changes with old RA:
he stays at bottom of the food chain... :P

[/sarcasm, but still true]

anyway: i would go sword because of the small shield, even if spear looks so much better (str/dex based, backstun, two dmg types, one of two classes who can spec thrust in midgard, very cheap drops due to few active hunters, cool evade animation)

every 30 minutes you will be able to see and unstealth nearly all enemy stealther, this should at least grant you a slot in a stealther wall camper grp

If you go for solo hunting Old RA's will make things even worse for hunter :?

The Hunter can be a good assassin killer with the right RAs, spec, and a lot of patience.

The Hunter will be dead with OF RAs and 1.69 patch.

I don't think a hunter classifies for the stealhter wars like most others, I think its better to see Hunter class as the reply to all casters and if bow and pet gets fixed perhaps some light tanks too.

Any archer is good against casters. imo the Hunter pet is really over-rated in this regard. Light tanks are tricky because of shield and charge. You have a better chance against main tanks.

With enough RAs and patience you will win almost every fight against an assassin.

Wellplayed high rr hunters was accually really tough in 1.69 on live servers.. I played a pretty high RR solo minstrel back then and the fights against good hunters was some of the best ones.

The best hunter i played against back then was meleespecced, something like 50 spear, 34bc, 35bow and ~30 stealth and I know he usually beat infs if he had RAs up. For RAs I think most important ones are the active ones (IP, purge and Avoid pain). The key for the meleespec was that he had so high WS so infs didn't evade as much and of course he could soak up alot of damage with IP/purge/ap. Also, this was in a setting where buffbots was normal.

I'm not so sure how good hunters are on uthgard tho, pet damage seems to low and I understand the defense penetration from WS doesn't work as it used too.
