I have a 50 skald, but was just wondering whats the diff between 4.9 hammer speed and 5.4 hammer speed. Id rather go for the 4.9 so its easier to pull off the parry style, but alot of people seem to go for the 5.4 speed. Help?

all 51ish weapons got 16.5 dps
its simple math that with a slower weapon you'll do more dmg per hit with a slower weapon. 1) You are on the internet
2) You are visiting the Uthgard forums 3) You are reading my signature 5) You didn't notice that point 4 is missing 6) You just checked for point 4 7) You are smiling FungsterINC's buffbot services! |

True, but because 4.9 is quicker, after a few swings the dmg done will no doubt be the same no?

Not if you use haste or celerity.

as celad said. you're going to have at least haste (buffed or via charge) or celerity. so you will probably be on swingspeed cap with the slower weapon aswell.

With a 5.5 weapon and 250 quickness, 39% celerity your swingspeed is 2.08
with a 4.9, 250, and 39% your swingspeed is 1.85 with 17% haste from pot your speeds are 2.83 and 2.52 respectivly and in reality none of you will have 250 quickness, more like 150 so with 39% your looking at 2.75 and 2.45, and wit 17% your looking at 3.74 and 3.33. It is impossible for you to ever cap a 5.5, it will not happen, nor will you cap a 4.9.. Its a myth that you do better damage with a 5.5, you hit more...proc more, style more, the closer you are to the 1.5 swingspeed cap. Those big hits are awesome from the 5.5, but not better over a few seconds. Just 1 evade, and you that much more time ad damage from a slow weapon. Just my .02 |

Skalds are not tanks. What you should be looking for is a large initial SMASH with the dd's to get someone running so you can back snare style on them. In RvR, consistently long damage is not as big of a deal as burst damage where as in PvE it is about damage over time and not burst damage. The only argument I give merit too here is the proc frequency - but you are probably looking at 1 proc per battle between the slowest and fastest 2H weapon at 95dd - and if that is the difference between winning and losing a battle something is wrong.
Use a slow 2h in RvR - DPS is the same with styles as the faster weapons but you hit harder off the initial which is what a Skald is looking for. There is no escape but death - Your life is just a murder train a-comin'
