Is Thane the class I am destined for?

So I am having more trouble in this game than others deciding a class to stick with.
I want to be a tanky char (not cloth for sure) that can pack a punch and have utility options. Thus I think I would rule out warriors.
I am not a fan of hand to hand so ruling out savage.

I started as a Skald but did not like the damage potential I was reaching. The small damage shouts did not do it for me and I did not care much for mezzing / regen etc. So now I am Thane and really enjoying it so far. My ultimate goal is to do some end game raids and rvr but I have heard some people really bashing on Thane for some reasons.

I just thought Thane looked like a good damage / in your face / can still blast with spells from range if need to char.
I was never a fan of the top damage dealers who die fast aka rog/archers. I am willing to give up some damage for survivability, but no "too" much damage. I do not want to be the tank role in rvr but I do not want to get dropped fast once i am in the fray.

Do Thanes get dropped easy late game or they pretty tough to kill?
Do Thanes pale in comparison to other realm hybrids like hero or champ or reaver etc?

Thanks for your time!

Thane is a pretty potent solo or small group char. Not bad in PvE either, I suppose. The problem is that any group has exactly 8 slots that it needs to fill in the most efficient way to have the greatest chance of winning fights in RvR. A Thane would, in its role, overlap with a Warrior (defensive, guard, etc) - but warriors are better at it because they get stoicism (shorter CC times), are nearly invincible when using their rr5 ability, get dashing defense (group guard). So people are less likely to pick a Thane, when a warrior is available.

That being said, a good Thane can be a valuable addition to a group. Same goes for Champ or Reaver. But it helps if you have an RvR-active guild that will give you the opportunity to get some experience at playing it in RvR. Without a good reputation, you will likely be limited to off-hours small group action.

So Thane is comparable to Reaver and Champ ?
I was looking at abilities and it actually looked like Thane had best dps out of all the hybrids.
Is this correct?

Reaver beats Thane DPS wise by far (if the enemy stays in Stun), if not the Thane prolly has best DPS thanks to its Str/Con buff, his 2 instant DDs and his Damageadd.

thane pros:
played/specced well = almost unbeatable in 1v1
50 storm spec absolutely rocks in solo/duo PvE
fun character to play with a variety of abilities

thane cons:
missing stoic
played badly = absolutely ruin any RvR strategy with massive and constant mezz/root breaks
unpopular in 8v8

really the better route is to level 2 characters warri and runi. you get the abilities of thane but split into 2 chars which have much more utility for group play. to learn thane well you need to learn to guard group support, kite, and assist nuke/dps only when the time is right. if you can learn these tactics on thane you can just as easily learn them on warri and runi which is a more effective, useful, and sought after character set to have.
