Hiya, after 5 years of not playing DaoC, I'm returning, and hoped to get a few questions answered :)

Posting in Midgard forum, as I played Mid on Guin, and while trying the other realms, I never did fancy them...
So back to Midgard!

So to the questions...:

1) When I played, we buffed... I had 3 accounts, with sm's on all, so I would be able to PL any new char. This is not possible (within rules) here, which I LIKE! But this also means the hardship of leveling "solo".
I know that "no PL" also means easier finding leveling groups. But just how hard is it to find groups at lower levels?
I played SM, Valk, and aug healer before, but I always had a love for support classes, so would like to start an aug healer again...
So... how hard would that be, both to find groups (at all levels), but also to level solo when no groups were to be found?

2) What is, and what isn't...? I assume the very least Classic and SI, but after that? ML's, Champion levels, Catacombs?

3) Leveling, again... my first chars were done by endless grinding, and while I had a blast back then, and never really minded it, has this changed? Quests? What about them instances?

4) Community? I heard some good things, but would like to hear it again :)

Hi and welcome to Uthgard...

Firstly may i say that you have not only chosen the best realm, but also the current population underdog!

That being said, i'll try to answer your questions.

1) Aug/Pac healers are very popular in groups . Even at the lowest levels, you should be snapped up. Possibly only beaten by an Aug Shammy for the Endu Buff.

Whilst there are obviously going to be times when you cant group (you might play US prime-time, you didn't say) but being an Aug Healer still makes it very easy to do.

2) Classic and SI characters; Some characters have missing or bugged features because trying to get them back to classic when you have no point of reference is quite difficult. For Example:
Bonedancers only have commander pet (with very low damage) , but a 4 second lifetap
Hunter has low spear damage and its pet damage is too low and some say archery is broken (others say otherwise)
Savage cant AOE attack, and all H2H weapons were recently stealth nerfed to 4 second swing timers.
Shadowblades seem to have a problem with defense penetration, which is due to weaponskill not doing its job.
No Pathing for MOB's so they can attack through walls.
Incorrect MOB damage but Blue is working on this.

Also we are on Old Frontiers but currently using New Frontiers Realm Abilities, which causes some upset in the community.

There are battle grounds: Braemar 20-35; Wilton 36-43; Thirdanki 44-49; ( but don't go in until you are 3-4 levels from cap at most, because a) You'll cap RP long before XP and there is no RP off so you will be stuck between battle grounds with only a grind to get into the next. b) you'll get one-shotted by the BG twinks and XP cap players)

DF works according to number of keeps owned.

No ML's, No Champion Levels, No ToA items (Some ToA skins though i believe), legendary weapons don't use elemental damage.

Most of the bugged characters/issues are on the todo list, with the possible exception of the SI classes, as Blue (the Main Admin) has stated Classic first then SI.

3) There are some quests, although more on alb and hib than mid. However, leveling is still a grind. Finding a guild or a steady group means you can realistically get to 40-50 within two weeks, so it is possible to level very fast.

You do get XP bonusses for levelling in certain areas. Its something like 1x in PvE areas, 2x in Border zones, 3x in frontiers (emain etc) Numbers might we wrong though.

There are currently no instances, but they are planning on bringing in some of the RvR dungeons (HoH etc), we are waiting for Blue to fix mob damage and Abydos to populate the dungeon with mobs and loot.

4) Community? yes there is one, and apart from the constant bickering, they are actually a close nit bunch. :)

There is always the usual realm rivalry where one realm is better or more overpowered etc, but its all because people like to defend their realm.

"Realm pride" isn't something that we speak of on this server as we do have problems with cross realm players. There are a few people determined not to cross realm though (myself included)

Any other questions let me know :)

No no, that answered everything pretty well :)
From Denmark, but played US servers before.

Guess all that remains for me, is to get used to the controls again... already flipped to page 7 on my quickbar 5 times, due to not hitting "return" before trying to hit "shift+7" for back-slash...
Played LotO 2 years, which has completely messed up my routines :P
First I'll run a bit around, catching up on the feeling, then I'll set up keyboard/controls to how I like to have it, so much work to have fun! :D

Guess /advice will come in handy :)

Damned real-life, I used to be able to play a LOT, but now...

it might also be useful to download a customUI so that you get things like the healers helper.

there is a thread in here somewhere...

Already did, but will run around a bit with n00b UI, to get that "mint" feeling again :P
Just till lvl 5+, from where I'm guessing groups will become more frequent.

Again, thanks :)

Heho,

I would recommend to go full aug firstly for lvling so you can easy solo ora mobs and the most groups in midgard just need buff, cele and heal.
You might should go for ManaRAs then to have enough mana while lvling.

I working at moment on a healers guide for uthgard that could be maybe helpfully for you.

Oh, well. I've played the game for 5 years before quitting, so I know my DaoC, but still appreciate helpful info :)

Will pretty much go all aug the first several lvl's, then start spreading it slightly, but still with focus on aug till lvl 40, where I'll step up mend.

Anyway, still tons of way to go. I do not have anywhere near the time to play, as I used to.

Yeah... one other question :)

I downloaded Bob UI, and put the folder "custom" in DaoC main folder (not DaoC portal).

I then tigged of custom skin, but nothing happens when I log in.

Been a while, so have no clue what I'm doing wrong...

There should be a programm in the custom folder. Something like Option chooser. Run it, there you can build your UI.

Putting "custom" folder in "UI" folder helped immensely... :)

Another little trick I do when I've just installed daoc is to create a default template. Login any character and configure the UI whatever way you like. Click on merchants, maps, vaults, dialog, etc and set the windows where you want. Add any universal macros like /whisper movement, etc. Don't add any specific class icons to your toolbar. Now exit out of the game. If you're using win7 you will find the character template under,

c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\electronic arts\dark age of camelot\lotm\

This is assuming you are running the latest client and installed in the default location. Just look for your character file. Not the .ign but the .ini version. Now copy that one folder up. Rename the file to something like default-12.ini. Each time you create a new alt you can just copy the default-12 into the ...\lotm\ folder, rename it to your new character's name like faceplant-12.ini and you're done. You can even create a short cut to your desktop for the lotm folder for all you alt-aholics.
