I've played mmo's since original EQ. I played DAoC right when it was first released but only for a fe weeks. I never made it over level 15 because I was playing other stuff at the time and something had to give. So now I am playing alot of catch up and have some general questions about the game. I appreciate all responses and thanks in advance.

I play with my wife and we have made it to lvl 17 as a war/clr pretty easily. We've just been moving campt to camp to get the xp bonuses so far. At the moment we are in west svelag? The one with the blodfelg and Hugginfel. We can put on another level or 2 here pretty easily, but where should we go next?

Gear has not been a big issue thus far because we've been able to have enough money to keep ourselves on passable gear. We don't waste any funds nor do we but the top of the line gear every level. We buy as cheap as we can get away with and it has kept us in yellows and blues. The problem is we have 12G between us and our lext line of gear is 20plus gold just for my weapon. Are we doing something wrong? Should we have more money or are there dropable gear sets/weapons we don't have to buy from vendors? It was all good up to this point, but that next jump in price is just killer. I'm not a complainer or a beggar asking for handouts. I just want to know if we are missing something obvious or if that's just how it works.

I vageuly remember that there was some sort os consignment quest system you ould use in original DAoC to upgrade your tradeskills without having to use monetary funds. I remember they would send you to talk to X guy and make Y item and return. But they gave you the needed mats and you just turned it all in when you were done. Is that not on Uthgard or have I gone senile in my old age and just remember it all wrong?

Thanks again for your answers in advance I am sure you guys are tired of answering these questions every time. I did browse the forums but I could not find anything specific so I created the thread.

Another question. Should I be using a 1hander or two hander as a warrior. Right now I am using a 1handed axe and a shield with my points distributed into axe and parry.

If your solo leveling i'd use shield so have less downtime, or spec hammer for the anytime style provoke has low end use with tireless can spam that style for very long time. be sure to use your shield/parry/evade reactionaries too for more damage and effects. and later you could respec to ax or sword. as for two hander when get 42 shield you can slam 9 sec stun then do positional styles for lot of extra damage with your two hander.

I remember those consignment quests! I raised my armorcrafting several hundred points doing that. Sadly, they were phased out on live long ago, and while I have not tried here I am certain they are not on Uthgard either. The best way for you to make money here is to either have wealthy benefactors or start out as a class that does not need equipment and kills massive amounts of prey easily (Summoning spec Spiritmaster/mistress). Starting out in Dark Age of Camelot as a class that needs heavy armor and weapons is a daunting endeavor indeed. You could try going to Jordheim and inquiring if there are crafters who would be willing to take what you have to make you equipment. Many crafters would appreciate the break in the tedium, actually.

As to your other questions, I would wander around East Svealand or maybe Gotar. Nisse's Lair , Vendo Caverns and Cursed tomb may prove useful too. I would recommend looking at Kirstena's Atlas, but it appears to have been gobbled by some server some months ago! Does anyone have any copies of her wonderful maps for Midgard? I looked but all I have are her Hibernia maps. I guess you can find others on http://camelot.allakhazam.com/ but Kirsetna's were the best in my opinion.

As to the weapon of choice question, there are others better suited than I to answer that, I mainly go off of style and do not care to entangle myself with mathematics or game mechanics. I can offer this though, since you are broke, and have not specced in shield, and have a healer backing you up (celerity?), I would buy a nice two-handed weapon and try it.

Hope this helps.

There are no Tradeskill task here, unfortunately, they really helped you skill up and saved gold in the meantime. If you can, begin a skill, Tailoring is cheapest in the long run and get Metal working up so you can salvage EVERYTHING that drops.

Try Dungeons for loot, Cursed Tomb outside Nallitan is a good place for drops, and as Warrior/Healer, you should do well. Like Rickson said, spec Hammer for the taunt style, your Endurance usage will be your biggest concern.

Look for me in game an I will give you guys an "hand up" with some gold. I remember how it was starting out. Good luck!

immediately go to DF when we have it. mobs drop seals which can be turned in for armor/weapons/jewerly, which are "free." also 25% xp bonus for everything in the dungeon. There are also always groups there since just about everyone xp's there.

So I should have been doing hammer instead of ax? Is there any way to change that now? I've already put 17 points into ax and parry.

At what level can we go to Darkness Falls?

We haven't really had any major problems taking on single reds as long as we don't get secondary adds that are reds or oranges. I've just been pulling using the cheapest throwing items I can find and it's helped us pick off alot of camps.

You get a free line respec at level 20. And mobs in the 1st part of Cursed Tomb are neutral, so just walk up and bash them.

Rick,
Sounds like you've gotten some great advice so far. I'd like to pipe in a few myself. Without an aug shaman, hammer is your best bet for the low anytime the others suggested. Sword tends to be better for shield users with reactionaries if you like that. As a rule I go 1-handed/shield versus high OJs and above and 2-handed on mid/low OJs and less. However with your healer wife you should be fine going 2H most times. If you switch to hammer at 20th then go 2H as it has a nice reaction off parry.

As for gear, yes that's an issue. Very few good drops. Here's the deal. You will get better drops in dungeons for gear but will lose XP do to over-camping. Roaming outside for camp bonus is always better so you'll want to balance. Be sure to find the named vendo Rathis and just kill him. He 1-time drops a 1H axe.

A good leveling area for 17-20 is the Cursed Tomb for sure. However most things are ghostly so resistant to melee. You could also head over the the werewolf fortress and kill the 17+ werewolves on the outside. Lots behind the keep before you get into Skona. There are also trees just inside Skona who are 18+ (I think) and weak to slash. At 19+ go outside SF. Lots of 20+ mobs just outside in the frontier.

DF is also a great place to go. You two can go there 14+. Good and bad about that place. It's camped a lot by peeps just like you. :) You'll get drops off mobs called seals. There are three types, emerald, sapphire and diamond. Higher the mobs, the higher the seal types. You can do two things with seals. Save them and buy DF armor from the merchants in there. Not crafted armor but better than drops to be sure. The all have nice stats as well. You can also sell them to crafters for a nice price. Crafters can use them to buy DF armor/weapons and salvage them for base metals then turn them into trinkets to sell. We can make a nice profit that way. You can make a lot of gold selling seals. Going rate is 1g for emerald, 3-sapphire and 12-diamond.

Lastly, like Adrianna said, you can find a benefactor to help you out. I would be happy to make armor for you two. Just remember me when you're looking to sell your seals. :) Give Dane a shout or ask anyone in Ragnarok if I'm online. I got hooked up by someone and I like to play it forward.

There are tradeskill /tasks from your primary tradesklll master here, but only up to 600 skill. You have to cover the inital cost of mats yourself, and when you turn it in to the assigned npc you wil get about 20% back on top of the basic cost, and some xp. Unfortunately on Uth, assigned craft tasks will sometimes assign you red con items, or items you aren't able to make quite yet, in which case you will have to relog and get a new one  Also you are limited in that you can only do 20 /tasks per level, tradeskill or otherwise.

If you are basing it off cost, then it is best to save up your tasks for the last 100 pts of skill, regardless what level you are.

If you're doing it for more xp, then /tasking the last points in the mid to high lv40s is good but gimps your skill advancement relative to your level.
