Most of us are PvP focused, but if PvE is your thing, its your thing. You're not required to play a certain class, you play what you want, there are no level requirements. Vent is not a must but does help in RvR, and alliance does have a Vent server for those that like to use it. We're basically just friends gaming together and helping each other out.
