New DAOC player here. So at level 20 I respecced Light to Full Mana on my Eld for leveling due to many posts and comments I'd seen in /guild.

I'm now running Full Mana on my Eld. I got the impression that Soloing was still viable with Mana... this really doesn't seem to be the case.

Thusfar I'd gotten all the way to 20 soloing with a mix of Light/Mana and the going was way, way easier.

What's the point of speccing Mana so I might better utilize what I have? It's really been dissappointing so far from what I've seen. Thanks for any constructive advice.

Mana is very good for grps (PBAE) but useless on Solo.

Solo you will need Void or Light

Please elaborate. What's the best way to solo with mana?

How much does a single respec cost?

In my oppinion mana is much better than void and slightly better than light for solo xping. (had full void, then full mana, now full light spec[for rvr] on my eld)

You have a single snare dd which does less damage than the light spec dd but has a snare component, so the mobs will move much slower when coming towards you, leaving you more time to keep casting at it. Additionally to that you can also use disease to slow down the movement even further. (I think, not 100% sure if disease works like that on mobs but I imagine it should)

Are you supposed to just continuously hit with the snare?

I realize it makes mobs move slower but with the lack in perceived damage from Light mobs still seem to die very slowly.

Even killing yellows I spend half of the fight staffing it to death while my friend on his Enchanter [we're both new to DAoC specifically] can absolutely run circles around me soling several oranges at a time.

What am I missing?

Dont compare u kill speed with enchanters. Sure light is slightly better for soloing since u ve higher dps and lower power costs. But just find a grp and lvl there and u still can kill blue/yellow mobs at decent speed. Just ask friends to make a POM pots for u.

When I was soloing on mana spec from ~35-40, it did work very well and I've never had to staff any mobs, they were usually dead before they would reach me(snaredd, snaredd, run a bit, snaredd snaredd, something like that), and if they did, a pbae(qc if neccessary) finished the job. Note that I only killed yellow con mobs because orange con ones would just resist too often.

The reason why your enchanter friend is able to level so much faster is because he can utilize his pet for focus pulls. (sending the pet to aggro several mobs and casting a strong damage shield on it)

But of course, solo xping as a caster with nukes is still slow. I'd try to find a group or build one.

Snare AOE really rocks. Getting used to this now.

Now I just need to find more places such as the mites in Lough Gur I've fought for like 3 levels straight. They gave seemingly really solid gold and I've been able to AOE Snare/Kite them pretty effectively.
