I am currently thinking about starting a Champion.. It will be a luri pierce shield champion.. I have researched the forums as much as i could and did not find much information pertaining to this type of character. I would like to ask our community what is the best spec for this type of character.. 35 pierce 42 shield.. and so on?.. Also what type of role would the character play in a hibernia RVR group and how would he fair out against the opposition in both group .. and solo instances.. Also is there a special leveling spec ( keep shield as high as possible?).. What sort of RA's would be best for this character.. any information would be great .. Thank you.. And have a nice day!!

50 valor 42shield 39pierce is my preference. All the highest debuffs/buff/instas, and 3 part anytime chain when yer not using block style. You wont be doing slam/lw type of damage which is why i like the highedt insta possible.
Group rvr youll be a couple steps behind hero and bm. The lack of stoicism and charge hurts, but not useless. Youll be block bot duty if no hero in group, or float between slam/interrupting/MA train. But champ is one of the best solo classes in the game.

My two cents. . .

I would suggest taking 40 valor 50 shield 39 pierce rest parry if you really wanna be a guardian, cause the lag between 42 shield or 50 is pretty much nad you need 50 shield and moblock as guadian I think. I think luri champ can be a nice guard with higer RR .well you need det5 purge 1 probably moblock 3+ and so on.

Most problem with a guarding champion is that the shield is just a medium one and will be penalized if there are more than 2 attackers. So, a hero do not only a better job in a group in "not standing around in mezz for 2 min" but also when it comes to defend group mates.

But solo or in small grps (which normally deal with less than 3 attacking berserkers) a guard champion is I guess very good choise.

i figured i woudl try to make a S/S champ work considering i will be leveling with that spec.. but i realized i really wanted a 2 handed character .. gonan go celt.. S/S... just thinking wether it woudl be a smarter choice to go with LW when 50 for PVP Purposes? ... the advantages and disadvantages.. i know for solo pvp a S/S is better but i already have a solo character and woudl liek more of a group type of character. Any help on Ra's woudl be great as well please..

The shield size doesn't affect the guard block rate. That's why you see blockbots with small shields only ;)
Shield size affects the block rate when the owner of the shield is under attack, so in general, when the hero (or the champion def tank in this case) is targeted by the assist, in most cases, the group is already dead or in a very bad situation ^^

Playing with a large shield is interesting in PvE to tank many mobs, but in most situations, the blockbot puts his/her guard on another tank, so no influence of the shield size ;)

A large shield has the exact same chance to block as a small shield.
Shield size simply determines the number of incoming attacks that can be blocked within a period of time (whether it is yourself, or your guarded target).

Small shields are simply for slamming in rvr, bigger shields are for everything else.

With a 50 valor spec, I doubt you're gonna see your block % reduced that much, that being said, you're not going to want to solo, especially on a visible character, OF discourages soloing, plus the silly amounts of stealthers.

But yeah, if this is your first character, welcome.

Well if you want to level and so on you can go as shield or LW . If you solo i would suggest stay at LW even for leveling cause 1h/shield specc deals no damage (so does the buggy LW specc here ehehe) the LW damage output is almost better and for group play you just take the fastest LW for taunt.

With 50 most champions use the 42 Shield specc + LW as well for stun, with higher RR you would be a very good blockbot you can also use WOC for theurg pet clear and so on, but most champs doesn´t even reach RR5 because they are not liked very much in groups, people prefer BM and Hero dor deff. Champion is a CC victim you need Det5 + purge before you can put any points in Woc, Moblock etc.

Regards
Meg

Thank you all for your help and your best wishes.. ! .. i will do the LW .. i have been speccing into S/s i thought it would be best for levleing cause of the guard and stuff in groups but if you say LW is best ill do that.. respec at 20.. Tis not my first character so that helps and yeah .. having a solo doesnt make sense i already have a stealther.. i can solo with him :D.. to be honest i really wanted to play a midgard warrior/skald.. but wanted to stay in hibernia due to this is where i have friends and such.. even tho i still get that fuzzy feeling when i see mids rolls us :P.. but yeah i find the champion has that insta magic stuff i wanted as well as the use of 2 handed which is ultimately what i wanted.. In live days right when SCing came out my Troll Warrior would one hit casters... not saying ill do this on the champion but <shrug> it will suffice :D.. Thank you for all your help.. !!..
