Hi all,

I joined this server a couple of days ago, made an elf mentalist, and leveled him up a bit. Many thanks go out to Sapient for hooking me up with some crafted gear, =D. Unfortunately, it's come to my attention that being a big, lanky elf will be a pretty big disadvantage when my character grows up and starts RvRing. Since I haven't put too much effort into him yet, I figure now is the best time to remake him as a Lurikeen. (I'll get a friend to help me transfer over that gifted armor so it doesn't go to waste, ;))

Anyway, my dilemma is this: I have a friend telling me that male Lurikeens, while small, are still significantly more visible than females. As a general rule, I don't like to avatar crossdress when playing MMOs. Will I be putting myself at a disadvantage (or just squandering a potential advantage) if I make my little Lurikeen Mentalist a male? Or are male Lurikeens still hard enough to target that they're well off in RvR situations?

Thanks in advance for your advice, and seeya in-game!

The discussion about being easier to target or not is cosmetic at best, in my oppinion. One you get close enough to read the race,

<Lurikeen Brehon> is a lot easier to click than <Elf Brehon>.

The difference between male and female Lurikeen is completely negligible in my oppinion. You will play much better when you like what you play, anyways :) But then, since you are watching the butt of your toon most of the times anyways, some prefer female butts over male ones :D And the male Lurikeens waddle pretty ugly instead of walking normally, and their arms move in a weird way :D

So, pick whatever you like. You could even pick a Celt/Shar to not be easily recognized as caster, but with a loss of Dexterity which noticably reduces your casting-speed.
“DAOC is not about what you can log. It's about what you can play :> ”

Uthgard 1.0: <Die Lettanten> Ivia - 8L8 Nightshade - Lone Enforcer since 8L1.
Uthgard 2.0: <Illuminated Stormriders> Oxy - Hero; Ivia - Nightshade.

Take a Luri and u ll be fine. Female is smaller, so yes its harder to pick. And yes it can make a difference if they see u or not, so i d always go Luri and cmon Luris just ve more style, so win win anyway!
If u think about rerolling, maybe u should ve in mind that u wont find any common rvr grp as a menta anyway, so u can stay an elf from that point of view. If u want to play caster in hib, go eld.
Regards

It's a personal choice.

Hint: Small Lurikeens sometimes have no LOS(Line of Sight) because they are so tiny, but indeed they are hard to click.

Go inside a Keep. Go on the battlement and try to cast down or try to nuke the Guards behind the battlements if u are outside.
Small chars are not always able to nuke them. With big ones its easy going!

Thanks for the replies! While I understand the difference is mostly cosmetic, I think I am gonna reroll as a Luri, as much for the dex as for anything else. So the issue really comes down to, how much difference does the gender make?

Plus if you're a female character there's a chance you'll get free stuff!
[3:10pm] <myrmidon^> You have to be a c*** to be awesome at daoc

lordgriffon wrote:Oh by the way... ever seen a group of 8 smite clerics? Or play against a group like that? I have. Absolute devastation. The group that runs up against them can't kill them fast enough because smite clerics have sooooooo many tools at their disposal combined with decent ranged damage with 8 of them dudes doing it!
