I'm trying to use cheap jewelry, and mostly cap my hero template.

I want to use Basalt shield of oblivion for large shield + 3.2 wep spd. but it's hard to template.

I don't mind using SOME higher util items, but everything on hib seems to have went up since i've last played.

I even tried using Ancient Chainmail with bad results.

Any suggestions? ;/

I dont think thats possible since you have to cap four skills...
Yiu definitely need high utility items
And maybe try to take a crafted shield where you can put more +shield on it than its on the df shield
Also you have the possibility to switch small and large shield

yes, but when guarding.. do you need to use large shield to block more attackers? How does that work?

shouldn't be that hard look in the template section for jewelary that might fit, use 1 or 2 mp items (feed gloves maybe arms) they are cheeper than buy jewelary for lotsa plats.
if you use drop weapons other than the shield than it might become a problem

Yep, Large shield got a much better chance to block 3 attackers than a small shield, for example. There were some tests made by several people and they presented the results in the forum, search for them if you really want to be sure. If you want to save some money and dont mind to switch your shields during the fight, then go for 2 crafted shields.
Simply use the small shield for slamming and the large shield for guarding if there is more than 1 attacker on your guard target .
