Just means I have never seen anyone with 50 shield and 38 parry at the same time. I know a certain (quite successful) hero who ran 50 parry, but he didn't use shield at all ;)

When I said the advanced evade 3 makes up for a few block %, that was of course my personal oppinion.

In my experience, you can never really avoid being attacked from side or behind in 8v8, especially when guarding a mate vs. multiple opponents. The occational extra block might be valuable, the occational extra evade of a slam/snare might be, too.

@Trishin I guess shieldmaster was referring to shield-blademaster. You can't do that as a luri, but you can use an elf (just -5 dex/qui and worse crush resists, but better slash/thrust).

Shieldmaster = Blademaster with Shield, my mind was moving slower than my fingers. Lurikeens cannot become Blademasters, but can become Heros and Chumpions.

I considered playing Chump, but the lack of Determination is strike one. Purge costs 4 RP for a Hero and BM, but costs 10 RP for a Chump. Strike two. Those are two big strikes. ...

Since it's an alt, I still might make a Chump instead of a Hero.

Race choice still Firby for both BM & Hero? The strength too much to lose to go elf for example?

Or are all races still viable as it is a very 'tanky' patch level?

There have been endless discussions about that topic - and you got plenty of time to find them until the server launches ;)

In a nutshell: Firbolg if you want to deal most damage (as hero and BM), Celt for looks and also well-rounded for both classes. And Elf Pierce-BM if you want something different ...

All fine and good, but it is more than just vague to say ability x is worth y amount of extra block... I think a conversation based on something like that wont end up being very productive. And no, you can't avoid being struck from behind or the side all the time, but I already said that this isn't my only concern in that matter. Movement and facing as many opponents as possible while guarding is also job of the def tank. When it comes to the question how effectivly this can be executed, our expierences might differ. Mine result in the consequence, that i consider an overall higher frontal defense (in a scenario with only hero and bm as possible choices) way more valuable than advanced evade + evade 3 (which is, no doubt, still very nice to have).

Firby is still best if your aim is to ever do damage, but overall if you aren't a min/max type of person it won't be HUGE. Me personally I wouldn't play anything else but firb for BM or Hero, because regardless of weapon type they have better dmg stats.
