I've just started playing, my friends and I are only level 10, but I've noticed a severe lack of gear dropping from the random mobs we've been farming. And we aren't making enough silver to be able to purchase items from the vendors. I was curious, do the dungeons drop better loot? We're just about ready for Muire Tomb as I recall (haven't old school leveled since 2001). Or should I start armor crafting? Is it cost efficient to do for gear while I level? Is there somewhere else I should go farm for new armor?

Loot/Gear/Money is definitely at a premium for everyone during 1.65. Humanoid mobs tend to have a better chance at dropping gear through my experience. Yes, you should develop a craft of your choosing but also funding it will be fairly slow as well. Many of us are still in green/grey gear, however, if you farm the right mobs/camps you can typically keep your crafted gear up to par as you increase in level and the drops get more frequent. Having friends/guildies taking care of each individual craft is also a recommendation. Good Luck!

Open world drops are indeed random and some ppl get luckier than others. Dungeons do seem to drop better gear in general - muire is a good spot for a few lvls but u definitely want to go to KC - dungeon in cliffs of moher - plenty of good drops there for most classes.

Pre level 20 gearing up from drops is hard to do, you will get something here or there but you will out level it usually before you get most of your different gear pieces of that name set. At about level 20 you can go to Spraggon Den and really start to see items drop inside there. You can pretty much get all your gear inside from killing spraggons and (rock guys). It is usually busy inside so you should be able to get a group. You will also see alot of people be nice and give away gear they cant use to the classes that can or ask to trade if you have anything they can use.

After Sprag Den there are otehr dungeons that tend to be teh same for gearing you. Alot more open world camps open up that also help gear you or give desired items.

Crafting (gear) if you just try to raise your skill and amke gear to use it generally will cost more than you can afford at your level to gear yourself. BUT you can also do crafting task from your craft master (/whisper task) you can make good money from doing these and afford to make items you need as well as have money to buy the gear you cant make. Crafting tasks are very slow as you have to run around the city but will make you good money if you take teh time to do them and they will also slowly raise your skill

Thanks all, had completely forgotten about crafting tasks. Will have to run those when my group isn't on.
