A good Hibernia Solo Class?

Is bow damage much lower for rangers than scouts and hunters?

I've heard that most rangers are melee dominant but they can not use bows at all?

I'm a new hib player for sure, but I have played a lot of DAOC on live servers (before atlantis) as a Minstrel and Theurg so while this aspect is new the overall game isn't. So the aspect of jumping into a more complex class doesn't scare me, hehe :)
